Watch out, Rachel from accounts has got her pen and paper out.

Dale vince is upset about it but I dont see why but it has to do with him loosing money in some way, he is just about to launch electric passenger planes retro fitted with electric motors. I would of thought he would be all for it - extra runways.

Expanding Heathrow over the m25 is one. Surely it would be better to build a new airport, than tunnel the m25?
Can you imagine the process to get that much Greenbelt land, the new motorway links, rail junctions and all the while fighting against Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick?

Plus it goes against the reason for choosing Heathrow was to be a hub. Adding another Airport would probably be the worst option.

My own experience of Heathrow is it’s too big, too crowded and too expensive. I fly a couple of times a month. Stansted is a good template. There was hardly much there at all before 1990.

Although I live right next door, I would’ve thought 2nd runway at Gatwick would be good…..it’s a major airport to only have one runway

I hardly ever hear planes flying over my house but sometimes in the mornings I can hear them taking off as I live that close to the airport.

Years ago, people seemed to talk a lot about a new UK hub airport in the Midlands, below Birmingham. I've not heard about that for ages. Anyway, haven't hub airports gone out of fashion?

I look forward to the third runway opening in 2050, by which time flying by the masses will be banned, therefore rendering it useless.

You hear all the idiots going on about 15 minutes cities. But for airports it makes sense to adopt a less centralised strategy.

Yes me too.

Or one where the real U.K. silicon valley is. Along the M4.
That's the old silicone valley, the new one is the London Oxford Cambridge triangle. A third runway is vital to delivering that. For all his political weaknesses Rishy saw that. There don't seem to be any significant Labuor constiuencies affected (apart from MacDonnel's who is expendable). The rest are libs or torey outliers. Roll on T3.

This country can't get anything integrated (even b****y immigration)! HS2 goes from the wrong station to the wrong city(s) (P'borough, York, N-o-Tyne, Edinburgh with links off across the country to Leeds, Manchester/L'pool) - that would give those cities a direct rail link into Europe.

But I digress - but needed as my answer to the problem is to replace Heathrow with Manson in North Kent - connected by a link off of HS1.

I still dont know what a 15 minute city is
A lot of cities, even London, now are just that, and no one bats an eyelid.

Anyway, if a new airport is required, give the rest of the UK some crumbs. HS2 so people can get from London to Birmingham quicker which will have no gain for most of the rest of the UK. Hardly surprising some of the suggestions are minutes from Heathrow and between London and Birmingham. Spread the wealth a bit, now and again.
