Water cylinder stat tripping

70 is 0 ohm or like mine attached, little resistance.
there should be a click when you turn it back down and/or m.meter open circuit, usually shown as a I, like below, infinite resistance.

Yeah, looks that way, they aren't very expensive.

"25 is reading 122.1kohm" Is this a auto ranging M.meter?, for interest, if you just hold the two probes apart what does it read?
Auto range was on and apart reads

1.blankblankblank

the immersed is on just now and at 54c it is doing a lot of clicking.

OP,
I didn't say call anyone on any particular day or time.
DIY forums are indeed to help DIY'ers with DIY issues but there is a cut-off point where a job is no longer a DIY possibility but an issue that for technical & H&S reasons needs a professional.
I could give you say five possibilities for investigation, & detailed instructions for trouble shooting.
But I wont because like CH boiler issues, which I could but I dont advise on either.
IMO its a job too far for a DIY'er, & not being on site it would be irresponsible for me to advise.

You should not heat the cylinder water above 65 C as that is unnecessary and risks scalding. For most people 55 C to 60 C is adequate.

The safety cut out should operate at 85 C which gives a fair degree of separation.

But the actual thermostat operation temperatures are not very accurate and can drift over time.

Heating 65 and below means no hot water for multiple showers. Whilst the ideal would be a bigger tank, this is not affordable at the moment.

Is that because you are not reheating the tank during showering times?

A slightly shorter shower time solves many problems.

Or replacement shower heads giving a lower flow rate!

I have solar thermal and allow it to heat the vented cylinder to 85C before cut out, I have a TMV on the cylinder outlet set to 60C.
Heating the cylinder to even 75C instead of 65C (plus installing a TMV) will give a extra 18% @ 40c from mains at say 10C.

That’s a good idea, so mix cold in with hot out via TMV?

Yes, but have a look at the temperature rating of the temperature&pressure relif vave settings on the cylinder first.
