I wonder if anyone could resolve this problem. 2 separate pans have the same problem. A black stain at the water line. Bleach partly shifts it, both cisternes have been cleaned, yet this is a constant recurrence. Water mains is alkathene pipe to house, copper thereafter

I believe Manchester has soft water, but have you tried a limescale remover, with a green nylon pan scourer?

What do the cisterns look like? There might be a rubber seal degrading

Does the water come via a loft tank?

As above, limescale remover may help.
There may also be some evidence to suggest that persistent black mould around the bowl, may be a sign that someone in the household is diabetic.

No M8, direct from the mains. Alkathene from the road mains, to copper around the house.

Just an update Guy`s, been using thick Bleach to clean the pan, I had a closer look at the bleach, "Aldi thick bleach", sniffed it first.........nothing......poured some on my hand, .........nothing, no smell, no warmth on the hands which you get from bleach, it looked like water, no bleach at all. So got some Domestos, sniffed it, phew, put some on hands, instant warmth, poured it around the bog, next day, clean as a whistle. Who would have thought it.
