You can get inti power by ignoring a proportion of the electorate and they know it.
The reason I said they hadn't learnt is because they keep ignoring a growing proportion of the electorate who will in the end cease to vote, bringing down the system.
And sufficient voters don't want boats turning up on our shores but has been shown they can't do f*ck all about it because of international laws and treaties and isn't that the nub of the problem our politicians are nothing more than glorified gatekeepers.

A growing proportion of the electorate: where? Who are these springy young saplings ready to grow into the mighty forest of Olde Englande ye once knewe?
You cannot vote for an anarchical government who ignore International law at the detriment of a majority of people who do not want perpetual change.

Well you've not addressed the fact the system will break down if you appeal to less and less fewer and fewer voters.
The French still have to abide by eu ruling which has resulted in the demographics of that country being changed, regardless of how many they out source to Britain.
*You have been cautioned by the pedant police.

not at all, you will just end up in a dictatorship if you don't show you want change.

those in power will keep power, unless you think less people voting will result in a civil war or similar

the system and the establishment is too secure to be changed by people allowed to vote but not voting

Only the loony left turn out to vote these days, because there are only loony left causes to vote for, whatever the party. No sensible person takes stuff like diversity, climate change and transgenderism seriously.

The majority of the population is conservative (small C) in that we don't want our tax money wasted. As more and more sensible people lose faith in the voting system you will only see us turn out to vote for policies which are (or which are presented to us) as conservative, hence the record turnout for the vote to leave the European Union.

You're thrashing around desperately and spouting nonsense.

Did you not read the bit where I said that they'll foist another system on us to appease us if the numbers drop to low in the current system that gives them legitimacy.

Think this is where Andy came in commenting on the poor turnout for the local elections.

Make voting compulsory. I agree.

People not turning out is voter suppression through the pushing of the notion all parties are the same and nothing will ever change creating voter apathy.

Make voting compulsory like driving licenses to drive cars.

Make voting over a number of days and not just one day.

It's not hard to get people to vote it's easier to make people think that their votes don't count.
What would be your penalty for a spoiled paper?

Are these disenfranchised folk wandering the streets and begging on corners?
People with a stake in this society, nominally homeowners, will not stop voting in order to appease a few who complain too many polish plumbers are stealing their jobs. For 30 years i've been told a Green vote is wasted, yet more votes are going Green with every passing year. Not enough to form a government, true, but i don't believe this country will ever have such a government. The Green Party have invested a great deal into the local elections as that's where they can do more good. Grass roots, an' all that.
How many Kipper councillors have been elected, remind me, old sport?

Have you read reports that the labour party are considering forming a government with the liberals if they don't win enough seats. What a tangled web these politicians weave when two opposites attract (socialism meet liberalism) Think that's one way of saying go f*ck yourselves electorate.

I've read what Streeting said what are these contrary reports you speak of?

Well you've not addressed the fact the system will break down if you appeal to less and less voters.

Like I said, you just keep spinning around and around, throwing some more rubbish into the ring as your previous carp is refuted.

Anyhoo, unless you can demonstrate that what we currently have is appealing to fewer and fewer voters, and that "the system" is seriously at risk of breaking down, your point is...........well...........pointless.

I've read what Streeting said
"Labour is “not even entertaining” the prospect of a coalition with the Liberal Democrats, according to Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting.

Streeting also argued Lib Dem recovery in Tory-held seats was a “path to a Labour majority” rather than a risk to it, as he faced a grilling over Labour’s options in a hung parliament in broadcast interviews on Sunday.

Asked by Sky’s Sophie Ridge if Labour was “prepared to go into coalition” with the Lib Dems, Streeting replied: “We’re not even entertaining that prospect, Sophie.”

Looks like you accidentally (or deliberately) omitted the word "not."

Which was it?

Plus why need for photo id to vote
Because we're no longer a settled, stable population and we don't know who we've got in the country. In recent times, certain 'sectors' of the population have been heavily implicated in voter fraud. Because of them, we now all have to go through extra bureaucracy. Oddly enough, it's the same 'sector' that now makes it necessary to be strip searched when checking in at the airport.
