Well I never.. common sense does prevail in some countries

So please don`t patronise others you have no idea about.

So you have done it again haven't you?
You have picked another argument just for the sake of it because even though you know I am correct you just cannot bring yourself to admit it for the sake of your trolling.

As a qualified doorman what are you NOT allowed to perform?
What move can the POLICE not perform?

Its a choke hold! and why? Because when they used them to restrain people in the past THEY DIED!!!

unbelievable . . .

Did I tell you that Black and white are opposites? Oh thats right you are now going to tell me they are the same just so you can take an oposing stance to me....

From Wiki:-

Blood choke

Blood chokes, carotid restraint or sleeper holds, are a form of strangulation that compress one or both carotid arteries and/or the jugular veins without compressing the airway, hence causing cerebral ischemia and a temporary hypoxic condition in the brain.[5] A well applied blood choke may lead to unconsciousness in a matter of seconds. Compared to traditional manual strangulation, properly applied blood chokes require little physical strength, and can be applied successfully by a smaller person.[6]

A chokehold or choke (also stranglehold or in Judo referred to as shime-waza, 絞技, "constriction technique"[1]) is a general term for grappling hold that critically reduces or prevents either air (choking)[2] or blood (strangling) from passing through the neck of an opponent. The restriction may be of one or both and depends on the hold used and the reaction of the victim. The lack of blood or air may lead to unconsciousness or even death if the hold is maintained. Chokeholds are used in martial arts, combat sports, self-defense, law enforcement and in military hand to hand combat applications. They are considered superior to brute-force

if trained to a high level that is  Equally choke holds are easy to defend against ;)

It's obvious you know very little other than wiki info

There is a reason why certain retrains methods are not allowed. It was largely due to afro Caribbean people.

I pointed to Wiki because all my ARMY training was done by demonstration and practical usage. I don't have a handbook now.

Strange you say chokeholds are easily defended against as the 6'5 car thief I caught could not get away from me and I'm only 5'11

News from Dec 2010
Whilst police officers have not been ‘officially’ trained to use neck- holds, it was widely known that many were skilled in martial arts, and those that had previously served in the military had been known to use them. According to one senior officer, others have used them “instinctively” when involved in violent struggles.

Neck-locks can cause death in seconds, by obstructing the flow of blood to or from the brain or by triggering a reflex action in the carotid artery which can cause sudden cardiac arrest. Professor Bernard Knight, a consultant Home Office pathologist of the period, said they should be used only in truly life-threatening situations: “They are dangerous holds that can never be controlled in a struggle.”

I think we have actually DONE TO DEATH the whole choke hold argument where Workers said you would not be able to choke someone unless you were Chuck Norris..

I am so unbelievably bored with Peaps and Alarm right now the same old same old TROLLS

Workers = Alarm , Banned
Peaps2 = Peaps , Banned
Streaker99 = Skyboy Banned

So there you go your inability to refrain from trolling has got us all banned again.

Basic principles

A key principle of Krav Maga is finishing a fight as quickly as possible and therefore all attacks are aimed towards the most vulnerable parts of the body (e.g., face, neck, groin, knee, eyes, joints). Because there are no sporting rules, individuals trained in Krav Maga are not limited to techniques that avoid severely injuring their opponents, but training and sparring drills provide maximum safety to the students by the use of protective equipment and the use of reasonable force. For example, kicks to the groin during sparring is commonplace, but groin protection must be worn and students should demonstrate due diligence with regards for their partners' safety.

Students learn to defend against all variety of attacks before engaging in full-contact sparring. Students are taught to respond to attacks in the quickest and most efficient way; a common lesson taught is 'always use the nearest tool for the job'. This basically means use whichever limb is closest to your attacker at the time and whichever feels most natural. Men and women generally undergo the same drills.[7][8] It has no sporting federation, and there are no official uniforms (such as a gi).[8] Usual training attire consists of a t-shirt and loose fitting trousers. Krav Maga is also one of the few martial arts in which footwear is habitually worn, due to its being 'reality-based training'. Most organizations recognize progress through training with rank badges, different levels, and belts.[9][10]

General principles include:[1]

Counter attacking as soon as possible (or attacking preemptively).
Targeting attacks to the body's most vulnerable points such as the eyes, jaw, throat, solar plexus, ribs, groin, knee, armpits etc.
Neutralizing the opponent as quickly as possible by responding with an unbroken, varied stream of counter attacks (i.e. attacking high/low) and if necessary a take down/joint break.
Maintaining awareness of surroundings while dealing with the threat in order to look for escape routes, further attackers, objects that could be used to defend or help attack and so on.

Basic training entails a warm-up, learning essential pressure points, and learning how to approach and control an opponent using force. Students learn how to execute strikes including various punches, hammer fists, elbows, knees and kicks. Students learn defenses against take-downs, chokes, bear-hugs, arm bars, and other possible attacks. Training also includes learning to defend against various weapons such as knives, bats, guns etc. Pressure drills in which students engage with multiple attackers are also common. Other training exercises and pressure drills include students closing their eyes and reacting to a variety of potential threats. Fitness and endurance training is also incorporated into regular classes.

Training can also cover situational awareness to develop an understanding of one's surroundings, learning to understand the psychology of a street confrontation, and identifying potential threats before an attack occurs. It may also cover ways to deal with physical and verbal methods to avoid violence whenever possible.

Things have moved on

my daughter can defend against a choke from behind, I'm just over 6ft and she can take me down with ease. I have put to sleep my instructor who has spent year in the special forces but I can assure you that I wouldn't take this guy on.

Choke holds are usually used when you find yourself on the floor.

Yep , leg sweep then a chokehold , it's the safest way to tackle anyone of any size without getting into a punch up.

I can not imagine what would go through a parents head upon seeing their child being raped.

Unimaginable, insane disbelief. Whatever the feeling, the feeling at that instant is unique and extremely irrational.

I remember walking into our house having been burgled with the house ransacked. It is a very strange alien and unique feeling and one where your senses become very heightened.

For all of us to comment on this guy doing what he did can only be done from the perspective of "what if....?"

All i know is that normal behavior would be replaced by an animal instinct to protect ones child and i think a lot of people connected with the case have understood this.

As a parent, i don't have a shred of pity for what happened to the rapist.

videos purporting to show choke hold escapes..

OMG you have wasted your time showing a load of videos of people escaping from a load of so called choke holds that I would not even contemplate using..

Just as an aside , Military unarmed combat (which I learnt) was based on Ju-Jitsu.
When MMA came in originally a load of rules had to be changed because exponents of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu dominated the competitions against all the karate - kick boxing - judo etc etc opponents.

Brazillian Ju-Jitsu was a development of Ju-Jitsu developed in Brazil when the Brazillian leaders son was a not a big chap and struggled.

Ju-Jitsu is a form of fighting that specialised in lethal holds and ground work as opposed to punches or kicks.
It also specialises in using your opponents weakness against them hence why I would always use it against anyone bigger or smaller than myself.

Most training is derived from the art

You need to lay off the drugs mate, I for one know that you are not what you profess to be ;)

Not sure i want to get involved in the "history" that seems to be going on here... don't know who either of you are, or were !!

But a rear naked choke is a killer... just watch a few UFC bouts to realise that..

Agreed, battering a tough guy with your fists is a non starter, a tough guy's face will be stronger than your fists..

And agree with noseall.. the situation dictates... you see a scumbag attacking your own.... you'll batter and punch and kick and whatever's needed, but without any form.... just raw....
