What do you spend your spare cash on?

The concept of "spare" cash seems stupid to me. It implies a short term thinking problem, implying that all the money needs blowing on something before the end of the month. It was probably how I lived in my 20s, definitely not when we got older and wiser. You never know when the boiler's going to blow up, or you're going to lose your job. You need money in the bank to cope with life's shocks.

My thinking too, you just never know what is just around the corner. Friends do pester me to spend money on this, or that, buy a new car, replace the kitchen or bathroom, but WHY? Bathroom does all that a bathroom needs to do, kitchen I fitted, and it works now, just as it did when I designed and installed it. Car passes it's MOT every year, without problems, never causes me any issues.

Besides, what is more interesting than seeing a bank and investment balance, that increases, month after month ;)

I saw a thread like this somewhere else. All anonymous, it asked how much savings people had.
Three groups
1) No spare money, hardly/not managing to make ends meet.
2) It's OK, but more ££ would be handy
3) Have more than needed, either in savings or income or both.

Hardly any group 2's.
Most were 3's. Typical comment - "I can afford things, I just don't want much".

Noticeably a lot of the 1's couldn't help themselves, couldn't understand much and treated suggestions for improving their situation with derision.
The only ones who'd done a budget were 2's.

The 1's needed education and discipline more than money.

Some doing well on etsy - craft things. Much easier than it used to be.

Bliar was right about education.

McD's coffee is a baragain and not too bad. Though I only stretch to the 99p regular (small in normal speak) white coffee. Nothing would make me part with £3 or more in Costa, etc for a coffee. People doing that on a regular basis must have more money than sense.

"White Coffee?" does one not mean an American with hot or cold Milk Sir?

There was a Poll I read, Costa Coffee has 3 times as much caffeine as a Starbucks Coffee, not only is it expensive but you can have heart palpitations thrown in.
