What do you spend your spare cash on?

I saw a thread like this somewhere else. All anonymous, it asked how much savings people had.
Three groups
1) No spare money, hardly/not managing to make ends meet.
2) It's OK, but more ££ would be handy
3) Have more than needed, either in savings or income or both.

Hardly any group 2's.
Most were 3's. Typical comment - "I can afford things, I just don't want much".

Noticeably a lot of the 1's couldn't help themselves, couldn't understand much and treated suggestions for improving their situation with derision.
The only ones who'd done a budget were 2's.

The 1's needed education and discipline more than money.

Some doing well on etsy - craft things. Much easier than it used to be.

Bliar was right about education.
Surprised there were more 3s compared to 2s to be fair.
1s are definitely people lacking discipline when it comes to spending, I doubt there are a huge amount of people in actual DIRE need that have time to chat on forums/online :D

WTF is a "Hayabuse"?
Suzuki Hyabusa; I believe it's the Japanese word for a peregrine falcon which is the bird that kills (Honda) blackbirds.
At least that's how it was explained to me.

Holidays & short breaks, three hols booked, break next week in Keswick, then down to Cotswolds for a funeral, with stopovers. Making up for lost time in lock down

Googled that out of curiosity - it's the fastest bird in Japan, reaching speeds up to 200mph: as fast as a speeding bullet train!

and it kills blackbirds.

McD's coffee is a baragain and not too bad. Though I only stretch to the 99p regular (small in normal speak) white coffee. Nothing would make me part with £3 or more in Costa, etc for a coffee. People doing that on a regular basis must have more money than sense.

I do sometimes pop into the local 'spoons, to treat myself to one of their bargain, bottomless coffees. Around the same cost as the McD, but in a proper mug, and refill it as often as you like.

There are no McD's, Costas, or any of the other chain outlets around here anyway, but pay £3 for a cup - absolutely no way..

Same here, but usually have the tea. After a recent large breakfast in there and lingering after to read the paper, found myself having 5 cups of tea.

"White Coffee?" does one not mean an American with hot or cold Milk Sir?

There was a Poll I read, Costa Coffee has 3 times as much caffeine as a Starbucks Coffee, not only is it expensive but you can have heart palpitations thrown in.

That's the good thing about McDs. If you're after a double salted caramel flat white latte thing with a flake, they'll do it. Or just a reasonble quality proper coffee with milk for a quid - that's on offer too. Too much b0!!ox with coffee these days.

The Hayabusa you can/could? rent for use at Elvington . . . I have my ticket stamped with 203.8mph single pass. One of my biggest regrets in life is not going top fuel for a 300mph run . . . . But that was silly money.

Especially if it gets hit by a speeding bullet train.

Does anyone here use food banks or know anyone who does? Can't say I do.
I know 2 who crow about how bloody marvellous they are for working in charidee shops.

"Poverty" is a hard to get a handle on.
There are some really stupid figures, like "1 in 6 is in relative poverty". Eh? What does that mean? 1 in 2 will have less dosh than the rest..

Partial help here: https://fullfact.org/economy/poverty-uk-guide-facts-and-figures/
Ton of numbers here https://www.nimblefins.co.uk/average-uk-household-budget#nogo with some strange (to me) ones - £56 a month in cash gifts???
Still no definitions that I've found.

I've got notices from estate agents on what rent changes to make. One recommends a 15% rise. I called him and asked what the property increase has been in the last year . 11% he says. I bet it's more like 5%. They're paying 2500 pcm. "You could try 3k" he says. I said I'd give it some thought.

Well, you can't take it with you.....
they do tak

quite a strange post really estate agents will have little idea off actual poverty food banks will ??
get your information about rent increases from an estate agent will be fine but in general there will be zero social input or zero moral input as that is not their job, and it should never be as they are fully there to serve your interests
iff you want a society with a social conscience, you need a game plan that needs a social element in then private housing market you will need you to accept a reduced return on your investment to fund your social element perhaps 5-8% to help fund those less fortunate in society in general or via a reduced rent for some the choice is fully yours
