Last year our store won the christmas model store - it was best presented, out of about 50 stores, so I got £30 of gift vouchers for that (£300 to share between the staff, 15 staff, some deserved them more than others, slackers lol), plus the standard £28 staff xmas vouchers. This year, our store was abysmal lol, so its just £28 this year! The amount increases after 5 years of employment. You get £30 then!

SFA, for the last 4 years, absolutely SFA. Miserable bu**ers.

Still not sure what Crismo present my boss will give me.
Still not sure what I'm going to give my workers.

(oh, turning into a spilt-personality here)

I find it shocking that firms cannot treat their employees at xmas ....:(

I understand small struggling firms may not be able too but but big businesses certainly can .....

Totally agree Moz. Even a small token gesture would show that a company VALUES its employees. So many companies forget that they could not exist without their staff

I don't have staff, but I always give the guys that sort out our freight £100 towards their christmas party and really that's just to keep them sweet so's they look after me through the year, I spose it is a show of apreciation and they are good boys mostly.

I think that treating employees and their partners well at Xmas is more important for small firms that it is for large companies.

Although after a few drinks the partners (normally the wife’s ) tend to bend my ear a bit, it's still good for them to meet up as they are the ones who are often stuck at home on their own.

This year we're all off to a medieval night in London which includes an overnight stay in a 5 star hotel.

I also give an extra bonus based on what staff members do over and above what they are paid to do during the year. So the office staff get rewarded for working that extra hour and the site staff get rewarded for not moaning when they have to stay late or work weekends!

i totally agree with the above. Im also a strong believer that it shouldn't just be done at christmas. Ive often bought a supplier who has bent over backwards to help me out a bottle of wine, or given my trainee a buckshee day off, or a small bonus at the end of a particuarly long hard job. A little thanks and praise go a very long way.

Right you are Thermo. Compliments to a supplier on every occasion they do more than just their job should be done over the whole year. (And paying them on time is a good practice also ;))
We're just a two-men band and we like to be paid on time also, life-blood of any small company. And everybody wants to hear when a job/service has been appreciated. That's my Christmas thought, always ;)

Due to rules imposed upon us, we weren't allowed to accept any hospitality or gift, for fear that this would be seen as taking a bribe (My god, it used to be great ;)). Christ, what is a salary after all, merely a bribe to get you to turn up for work. The mealy mouthed stingy barstewards. Mmm, perhaps that's why I left :D

well you were a high court judge ...lol...lol

It's absolutely true Moz, not the high court judge bit, but we weren't allowed to accept anything.

The large, family owned digger business i work for used to give us a PRP payment at xmas, before paying another sum after the books were done. Now we get a "gift" of a xmas bonus, whatever amount they decide they can manage. We are all very grateful for this and last year it was more then £700 before tax and NI. However, this year we have pay negotiations to get through for our 2007 pay deal. The company's offer is supposed to be discussed this Sunday at a union meeting. Our MD has issued a memo to the shop floor stating that "the xmas bonus may not be paid in time for xmas if the pay negotiations aren't settled and signed off by the union by 10am Wednesday 20th Dec". Is it just me or does that look a tiny bit like blackmail? Also, the wages for that week should already have been done by the Wednesday and the bonus, if any, should be included but we'll have to wait and see i suppose.
