What have you been doing today?

Been over the allotment end this morning and dug up some spuds. Took a picture and to give you some idea of the size of the crop, I’ve sat my mums dog next to them. She's a St Bernard.

As maddening as parents can be, you miss them when they're gone.

You're a good son, 300 miles!
didn't turn out to be as far as I thought (diff hospital) but a truly crap day on the roads - over 3 hours to get 25 mile at one point. 8 hours fecking driving for a 1 minute covid test that can not be anything else that 100% negative.

A mate of mine has a villa in Sardinia and he is sending a pallet of stuff out there. It’s being collected tomorrow so it had to be built and left out in the street overnight. He bought 2,000 metres of pallet tape, a box of clamps and a stretching/tensioning/clamping tool for the tape. He asked two of us round to help him load the pallet, thinking it would be a 20 minute job. Unfortunately he had no idea how to use the damn thing - the tape has to be clamped, stretched, a metal tag fitted and then crimped while under tension. It took three of us three hours exactly to load and wrap it! We ended up with this:

It had to be kept within strict dimensions of 1.2 x 1.0 x 2.2 metres otherwise he would be charged for two pallets. Trouble will be at the other end - his villa is up a remote hillside and the last time he had some furniture delivered, the lorry couldn’t even get through the village let alone up his road. He's probably going to have to have it dropped in the village and transported in pieces by tractor up to his place. I couldn’t be arsed!

Built a display case for our Zippo lighters. Will hold 25 when we get a few more lighters, (currently have 13), and today I went to cut a piece of perspex I took from a picture frame we bought last week just for this purpose. Marked it out and GENTLY started to feed it through my bandsaw when it suddenly shattered! Turned out to be 3mm glass!
Thank god for canvas gloves and face shield.
Think I will buy the proper stuff from a local supplier tomorrow and maybe get them to cut it to size for me.

More painting. We’ve gone from 'Pond Leaves'

Mrs Mottie is now happy. Regarding the smell, she did comment "That paint doesn’t smell of fumes at all, does it?" so Valspar must have gotten rid of the company cat!
