Hmmm. I think I’ll give the air fryer a miss!
I often make my own pitta in the frying pan, mix milk with yeast & a little olive oil then let the yeast come alive for 10mins. Put plain flour in a bowl & add a little salt, you can also add any herb to taste, I like to occasionally chuck basil or oregano in, mix in the milk & create a dough. Splash olive oil on a board & kneed for 5mins. Put the dough back in the bowl & let it rise for 30mins. Cut the dough into whatever sized pitta pieces fit your air fryer & roll out to approx 1/4" thick. Fry in a medium hot pan with a little olive oil for just a few mins each side, try to get a few brown patches try not to burn. After 5-6mins you'll see the bread start to rise. They're done. No preservatives, no flavourings, no E no's that nobody knows what they do & no hydrogenated oxygenisators (I made that one up).
What's not to like?
You can then chuck whatever topping on your pizza that takes your fancy. I mostly use a passata but I do make my own tomato spread from the many bagfulls of local allotment toms which are seasonally traded in t'pub. Sadly we don't have a local cheese maker so I just chuck on hand fulls of mild cheddar from whoever is cheapest this week, Mrs Lard likes a little bit of Stilton to top hers off but personally I think that is disgusting. I put meats like bacon, ham, smoked pork sausage, pepperoni & salami. Lidl do some excellent cooked meats but I often pop into a nearby polski sklep. The grandkids are all hamsters & rabbits & DiL has threatened me with death if I feed them meat, so for them it's limited to sweetcorn, pineapple, mushrooms, onion, peppers, spinach, or almost anything that's hanging around & might be interesting . . . .
I really don't have the time to grow vegetables but it must be awesome to eat the veg you've grown yourself. Are there any nasty ingredients in them?
The KFC style chicken is made with the same herbs & spices mix from the Colonels genuine secret recipe that is all over the internets. I mix it myself as I have a cupboard full of herbs & spices as I use them a lot. I like my chicken from the breast, free range & fresh but there's always a bag of wings & drumsticks in the freezer. My little secret is the grandkids do sometimes wolf this down & I suspect that DiL knows . . . . But if I ever crossed the threshold of a fast food restaurant with them in tow I would certainly suffer the death of a thousand cuts.
Where's all the nasty's? I know the exact ingredients of most of my food & don't get hoodwinked by salt & sugar etc being called meaningless code names. What's not to like?
