What have you been doing today?

With everything in the ground that needs to be in the ground at the allotment, I’ve just been doing a bit of maintenance to the timbers that make up the beds, sorting the paths out and layering more wood chippings down as a mulch between the beds. We have a couple of piles of wood chippings that tree people drop off for us but recently, a new plot holder paid for a tree surgeon to come in and remove a couple of trees on his plot which they did and then chipped them and put them on our piles. They are useless - pine cones and pine needles and ivy leaves which meant that I had to get my chippings from the other pile at the other end of the allotment - a fair walk. I was working in the scorching sun so took plenty of water and breaks in the shade of my shed. I even nodded off once for about 20 minutes and it was the best nap I’d had for ages.

Anyway, came home and went on drain duty - seeing what work had been carried out by the contractors today. Yesterday they had finished getting our run across our drive, through my neighbours patio in her garden (presumably teeing into her waste pipe) across another neighbours patio and into to the manhole behind those three scaffold boards. Today they replaced another of my neighbours short run into the manhole and also started on the main run from the manhole, along her drive to the sewer in the street using a larger bore pipe as that has to take the waste from about 10 houses from that manhole. Again, we are left with a shît pit for the waste from about 10 houses to flow into and build up overnight. Presumably they will pump it out in the morning. I certainly hope so for my neighbours sake!

They are replacing the old pitch fibre drains with clay and you can see in the next picture a section of the old, about to collapse, drain. I’ll be glad when it’s all finished - been going on for a couple of weeks now.

Our turds will be travelling at warp speed all the way to the sewer when this is completed! :ROFLMAO:

Fitted new discs and pads to rear brakes on my bmw. Now to take it easy for a couple of days. No wonder mechanics hate bmw’s it was a right pig. Drivers side took 3 hours, nearside took 1 hour. Christ knows who did up the bolts on the drivers side.

Got the central third of my plot in order today. The other two thirds are not that far behind. When it’s all done, I’ll just need to let nature take its course, weed and relax.

More inspection of progress on the drains and there doesn’t seem to be a lot to show for the time they are putting in. They are using a mini digger and a dumper truck to bring it back to the skip parked on my next door neighbours lawn. Tonnes of clay are coming out of the ground and they filled a 10 yard skip with it which was taken away by a grab loader. When I had a look tonight, they only seem to have progressed a couple of metres. Good thing though, they are leaving a gap of about a foot from the end of the new pipe and the open end of the existing pipe so the sewage is not filling the hole, just trickling away through the old pipe.

Another metre and a half today.

Even at that rate, I thought they may be finished by the end of the week.

Until I saw this:

Is that a 12, a 13 or a 19?

Anyway, that’s the outlet from the final manhole which goes to the main sewer in the street and it serves 13 properties. They haven’t told anyone not to use the loo or anything so they are working on it 'live'. They must have stomachs of steel and a free supply of boots!

Chauffeuring wife and daughter around town and baby-sitting youngest grandson when they went in to shops today.
It's amazing how many women you meet when holding a week old baby in your arms outside a shop. Beats a flashy car any day!:LOL::LOL:

1 week old grandchildren do NOT exist just to be used as fanny magnets.

Having said that, they do seem to work a lot better than most aftershave's ;)

Almost completed the prep's for our move onto the Lleyn peninsula for the summer.

We'll probably spend our first night there on Satday, & maybe not come home till November. . .
