What have you been doing today?

15 mile bike ride, bacon & egg bun at halfway point, battery gave out just as I turned into my street

Getting motorhome ready for a two night stay near Kendal, meeting up with friends, going to caravan shop to buy toilet fluids later

Repairing the hut and summerhouse roof. I had the material and inclination for weeks, just waiting for a dry day combined with some assistance available, to get on with it.

Over the lotment, mulching my paths and painting my pallet collars but run out of paint. Detour to B&Q on my way home to get some more wood treatment paint. Due to the failure of my broccoli, sprout and kale seeds to germinate (everyone seems to have had some sort of problem this year), I’ve set some more seeds to germinate but I can’t be arsed waiting to see if they take so while at B&Q I bought six each of those veg seedlings to plant out. Saw a funny thing over the allotment today. The allotment backs on to the river ingrebourne and I saw a crow chasing the hell out of a heron and it was going in all directions over the allotment to get away from it - it looked like a proper dog-fight, I assume it may have been trying to take the crow's chicks. Anyway, it eventually dropped into someone’s garden that backs on to the allotment and after the crow had sat guard on top of a shed for a while, it flew off.

Dog walk from the door this morning. Walked to Upminster, went in my local dog-friendly department store for a browse and on the way back I had a good look at our local fully restored working windmill.

On the way back, I noticed that someone has put up a book swap cupboard at the top of our road for local residents. A good idea - I had a look in there but nothing caught my attention. I use a kindle these days but I still have a few books indoors so I’ll put those in there.

Over the allotment tonight to plant out some brassicas I bought the other day. I uncovered the bed that I covered last year and despite digging it over a least three times, there were still plenty of potatoes coming through.

Just as it was getting dark, the gnats came out and started biting so I packed up quick and came home.

Back and forth to the hospital the past two days.
Stepdaughter gave birth, (C-section), to a healthy 7lb 1oz baby boy this morning.
Maybe now me and the wife can step back and have some well-earned rest.
Grandchild number 12 between the two of us. 6 each. 4 boys and 2 girls on each side. :)

Down to the last slice, so a trip on the bus was called for, to Lidl to restock. I always pop in a charity shop, near Lidl, to see what they have on offer, and last time I spotted a Bresser USB microscope going cheap, which looked interesting, so this time I was determined to have a closer look and maybe buy it.

It's working, and seems handy for electronics..

Popped into a country pub while out with the lads & spotted on the chalkboard 'burger £2, cheese burger £3 & handjob £50'.

I checks my wallet & YES I've got enuff, so I leans over & whispered softly into the barmaids ear "is it you that gives the handjobs then"? & she replied with a wink "yes".

"Go & wash your hands then I want a cheese burger".

I've been trying to work out my potential inheritance tax liability.

There is a form you download from HMRC. You type your numbers into the various boxes and it tots it up for you. The problem was, I realised with some combinations of boxes, it was doing it wrong. I rang them and we recreated the problem. Luckily it is an easy fix, they said. But I can see that some people (maybe lots) might end up with a bigger bill than they were expecting based on that form.

Anyway, that’s just reminded me of a friend I once helped, who was employed by the Home Office. He was on job share. His contract stated six months full sick pay. He developed a serious health problem and had to have a long period off work. After three months the sick pay stopped. The problem was that their computer system converted pay entitlement into hours and it didn’t seem to be able to understand how job share worked. Nobody in HR, locally or centrally, seemed to want to engage with the problem, just saying the computer must be right. The union rep was utterly hopeless. In the end I started an employment tribunal against the Home Office and very quickly it got sorted out.

More graft over the plot. Only a few more beds to prepare and then I can just sit over there and watch tasty things grow. Of, and the occasional bit of weeding. :giggle:
