What have you been doing today?

Thanks for the info, I need to sort out something more reliable so I don't lose a card again. Only thing with your link, I'm seeing the words "dedicated app". Guessing I would need a smart phone for this. If the Monzo is more old school, maybe that would be better. How does it work?
Monzo is just a pre-paid debit card. Load it up with money and just tap to pay.

Looking at the link, you only need the dedicated app if you want to monitor your use or pre-book parking.

Both Monzo and a tag card are probably possible to use without a smart phone but feck me, a smart phone doesn't half make things easier for most things these days. Wassamattawivya - get one you dinosaur - you didn't travel to France on horseback after getting off of a sailing ship and post on here using a carrier pigeon did you?

Shrapnel ;)

Never fails.

People often laugh at my liking for old tech and keeping things simple. They laugh at my ancient Nokia 6100, but their 'smart' phones seem to need regular replacement. Mine keeps going. Same with the old van that owes me nothing and survives due to careful ownership - whereas they pay hundreds a month just to 'rent' the latest Euro $h!tbox that is ridiculously over complex.

You don't want cash they say. So last century. Well relying on cards and smartphones to pay can leave you up ssht creek - as happened to me. Got cash in your pocket and you know where you are. Least I have back up Barclaycard (steep foreign trans charges) and my Lloyds debit card to get cash out (get screwed on the rate and some banks like Credit Agricole charge 6 Euros per withdrawal, but others are better but it's a minefield). Should go back to the days where we went to bank and got a fist full of travellers cheques and foreign cash. Knew where you were.

Old fogey type rant over!

I'll try the Monzo, thanks. Sounds just the thing and I'm already signed up with Wise/Transferwise. Maybe I can monitor Monzo on my computer. Got two of those!! Laptop was a recent addition for foreign travel. I can now write nonsense on here from wherever I am in the world.

Yes, I know - I'll have to give into technology eventually. They'll make it too difficult otherwise.

Going round in circles at the moment. Mrs Mottie was upstairs ironing when there was a loud 'pop' and a scream. The iron had blown up. I looked back and we bought it from Argos in July 2022 and it had a two year guarantee. Problem is…the Argos branch we bought it from closed two weeks ago, they don’t make that model of Phillips iron any more and we don’t have the credit card we used to buy it with. Argos customer care are useless - they told me to 'reach out' to the manufacturer and gave me their number which doesn’t even ring so it’s a dead number. I'm going to have to go up to the Argos counter in our local Sainsbury’s and 'ave it out with someone!

Edit. Found the contact number for the manufacturer but they are not open until Monday.

Get back on the phone to Argos and demand a head honcho to sort it out. Your contract is with them, not the manufacturer. Up to them to replace. Sainsburys aren't Argos, they just act as drop off and collection point for Argos parcels as Argos are closing their own shops. You'll have a wasted trip. If Argos try to shift responsibility, threaten a call to local trading standards as they are breaking consumer law, poss Sale Of Goods Act.

"Reach out", FFS! Where do they get these people from?

Back at Stoke. Last time I attended, they won, boosting their chances of staying up. I was labelled a lucky mascot, it being my first ever footy match.

So, back I am today. If they win again, I am to return to the next home game.

I've even had my picture taken with Pottermus! The caption was: "Picture taken with Stoke lucky mascot....and Pottermus as well."

If they lose, I will be in disgrace and will not be invited again.

Not looking good.

Canaries have netted 2.

That's my shortest job ever....

I would take it back to the Argos in your local JS store. Ask for a replacement.

I did, under strict instructions from Mrs Mottie nit to start an argument. The manager said if it was less than a year, they would have sorted it but the second year is something the manufacturer offers so I have to take it up with them. What they said was that usually the manufacturer will give me a code to take to Argos for them to offer a replacement or refund. I’ll find out on Monday!

We bought a kettle a few years ago. On the box it was prominently marked as having a 2 year guarantee. It broke after 18 months. The manufacturer refused to replace it. Right at the back of the instruction manual it said the guarantee was only effective if it was registered, and we hadn't done that. Who reads the manual for a kettle! They wouldn't budge and we couldn't be bothered taking it to Trading Standards or court.

Doing some structural timber work for solar panels and discovered I had run out of long coach bolts.
So in an emergency off to B&Q, not much choice so I bought what they had.
Absolutely useless, soft as butter, broke clean off where shank joins thread whilst screwing in, tried to get the remains out and it broke again where the thread entered the wood. I swear I will never buy any B&Q brand bolts again!!
