I’ve heard it called 'snap' on Coronation Street.
Well, I went to school near Ponte, and it was common there, but later in life I worked Sheff patch and "snap" was very common there, but also to some degree in Chesterfield and Mansfield too
Yes, heard that too. What about "scran"?
Finally got the bastard out! Had to use every weapon in my armoury though. Jack, saw, axe, pick axe, jigsaw and even a length of 4x2 tied to it for leverage.Had another go at that final stump. No joy yet - I think the roots are going straight down to the centre of the earth. Digging using a trowel to expose the roots so that I can chop them. I tried at one point to Jack it out of the ground using a trolley Jack. Still wouldn’t budge. Calling it a day for today - got a blister on my palm using the trowel. Was wearing gloves too.

No chance - that was all replaced at the rear of the house. I’m the last of the run so it went from my house, across my drive, through the back gardens of two semi's, down the next drive of those semi's and into the sewer running along the road.Next week, I'm half-expecting you to post about your £80k water works suddenly collapsing![]()

Getting there. New shrubs planted in the bed and bed covered with a woodchip mulch. A bit gappy for my liking but Mrs Mottie said they will grow pretty quickly and she can put some bedding plants in this year.
Here’s an old one from Google maps. When I trimmed them back because they were overhanging the pavement, all I had was dead wood. A bit of a mess really.Looks great! Do you have a photo of how it used to look with the conifers?
They would have been high demand. I bet the ground was quite dry around the roots etc? Here’s an old one from Google maps. When I trimmed them back because they were overhanging the pavement, all I had was dead wood. A bit of a mess really.
