What have you been doing today?

Yep. They were supposed to phone me back with an update last night confirming that my missing credit had been replaced. No such call came. Going to get back on to them today. Of course, it would help if the people in the 'customer care' department of British Gas could speak clear English!

Yep, I found that problem too, when trying to deal with them. It seems that some companies deliberately employ poor English speakers, so they can tie you in knots trying to understand them, so you eventually just give up.

Any promises from BG - take with a large pinch of salt. Sometimes their calls are dealt with in a call centre in South Africa. If you can remember any Afrikaans it may help you.

Yep, they seem to employ the cheapest possible bid, to answer their phone calls, ignoring the need to actually speak understandable English.

Went for a stroll at Chorlton Water Park with my step-Mother.

The area was the site of Barlow Hall Farm and was excavated in the mid 1970s for sand and gravel to build the nearby M60 (then the M63). After the M-way was finished, the resulting pit was flooded and it opened in 1978.

Nearby Sale Water Park was also created from land excavated for material to build the motorway.

My flock is increasing. I’m now up to 12 pigeons waiting on my roof at 8.00 and 5.00 for feeding. We're going away to a wedding from Thursday to Sunday and I’m already feeling guilt that I won’t be here to feed them. They depend on me…. :(

I think that the current problem with our Susie could be down to her hoovering up the seed that the birds miss! I hope so anyway. 1,300+ quids worth of blood, poo and scans hasn’t revealed much that is causing the runny poo's she’d had and it does seem to coincide with when I do my scattering. She seems to be getting better on a grain free hypoallergenic diet and the bird seed is…..grain. I’m binning my remaining stock. Fingers crossed.

1300 quid?, could've bought 4 new tyres for that. ;)

I couldn't sleep last night, mulling over in my mind, the technicalities, and snagging in my mind - the switch to fibre next Wednesday, so I got up at 3am. I needed to log into my main router, get all the settings from it recorded, to set up the new fibre router the same - except my usual laptop had died, taking the admin login and password with it. So I was at it a good while, struggling to log in, and then get the details I needed, down on paper.

At 4am, I heard the patter of little feet, in the bedroom above me, then eventually down the stairs, and she (dog), burst into the living room where I was busy, then she asked to go out. Once back in, she jumped straight on the stairlift, I had adapted for her, and began bouncing up and down on it. She as it firmly in her head, that bouncing on it, is what makes it go.

Me still in the living room, working away, I heard the commotion, and so went to the foot of the stairs to press the up button, on the stairlift remote, got her to the top, at which she calmly jumped off, and I brought the lift back down, ready for her next trip.

She's fine walking down the stairs, she just struggles getting up them, so I adapted the footplate of the lift, so it was big enough for her to step on, and ride up. Now it seems, I might have to devise her some means of her being able to operate it by herself :)

This morning, I/we've been opening up, and going into what I call the wing of the loft. I call the wings, the low roofed unusable sides, which I timber framed, insulated, and plasterboarded 30 years ago, leaving a small hatch, for access. To get the new fibre in next week, will need access to that section of the loft, so we've been up there, and investigating.

We found all sorts stashed in there, mostly long since forgotten about. Couple of TV antennas, three CB antennas, two 18" Vent-axia fans, and a box of 50's, 60's, and 70's records, around 30/40 of them, all the small singles (45's??). I wonder if the records might be worth anything?

[EDIT] Just counted the 45's, and there are 88 of them..

Mrs Mottie and her sister are worrying about the cold spell coming up and the possibility of freezing pipes/damp in their mums vacant house. They tried putting the heating on but it wasn’t coming on so I went round to investigate. Useless brother wasn’t going round to help so I had to step in. Standard heat only boiler, vented system with a hot water cylinder, 3 port motorised valve. Y plan I believe. Been switched off for a few months. Hot water was coming on but not the heating. Thinking back to the problem I had with our system, I wondered if it was the motorised valve sticking. Tried powering off the system then back on a few times but no luck. That would work with mine when mine had been off for a week or so. Next attempt, give the three port valve a couple of whacks. That did the trick. Turned it off and on a few times and it was working 100%. Set the timer and left it to come on a couple of times a day at a low temperature - 13°. Job done!

Best get a replacement actuator ordered then, before it seizes up completely. You will get one cheaper by looking round now, rather than when it becomes a distress purchase.
