What have you been doing today?

Yeah, you only have to leave the tiniest of potatoes or even just a piece of skin in the ground and up it will pop next year!

Yep we've given up trying to regain control, the tatties have won out this time.

Tearing my hair out today. Mum's old low level (seperate cistern) downstairs bog had developed crack in cistern and was leaking. Managed to source a new old stock 9 litre flush Twyfords cistern to replace. The pan is fine and cemented into floor so I'm leaving well alone. The area of wall behind the two screw holes in back of new cistern is just below a window sill. Soon as I put the drill into the two areas the wall just crumbed. Ended up with holes I could put my thumb in.

Fine I thought I would get a strip of steel to brace across the 'U' shaped cutout in middle of top/back of cistern instead. Except when I drilled that area of wall for the rawl plugs, that area of wall crumbled too. In the end had to screw strips of steel up wall behind cistern to get a good fixing lower down. Then some bolts from top of these strip, through 'U' shaped cutout in cistern and brace with a strip of steel across the inside of the cutout.

Jesus wept! Would have been quicker in the end to rip it all out and put in a new low level.

Went to Sainsbury’s last night to get stuff I forgot to get on the big shop. Went again this morning to get stuff I forgot last night. Dug up a few more spuds from the allotment for roasting on Boxing day. Currently making an individual Christmas roast for my mum as we are going to our son's for Christmas dinner and she won’t leave her house unless it’s for a medical appointment!

Just leaves the wrapping up of Mrs Motties Christmas presents later - I’ve been very unimaginative this year but it’s stuff she wanted - .hat, coat, scarf, jumper, yoga pants and sweat shirt, boots and a new nightie plus a few other bits.

Stick a fork in me - I’m done!

Trying to fathom out, why a USB HDD, plugged into my LG TV upstairs, used for pause/play, and record, randomly shows up as not available. I have a similar HDD, on the LG in the living room, with an earlier OS, which has never failed....

Drive works fine, reports/tests fine plugged into the pooter. Tried an identical drive, and the same problem. Best guess is, that it's the male USB plug, not quite making proper contact with the TV's. It's a male to male lead. Now testing it with a male to female lead, and a male to male adaptor.

Because technology is all a bit flawed, they said changing all mobile devices to using usb c connections would ensure everything was compatible but they absolutely are not, some cables work with some phones work with some chargers etc.

I gave up trying on my LG TV. I can record onto my USB but (a) the TV has to be on and (b) I can only record what I’m watching. What’s the use of that? I'm probably doing something wrong but I can watch most stuff on catchup anyway.

I've three LG sets, and none need to be on, to record, if I have previously set them to record.

(b) I can only record what I’m watching.

That's a limitation of only having one tuner in the TV. On the rare occasion I'm keen to record something which clashes, I simply set one of the unused sets to record it.

I’m in the doghouse!
For the last 4 or 5 days, we've been seeing a few tiny, tiny insects on our ceiling in the kitchen. We've just been hoovering them off with the cordless vacuum. Couldn’t work out what they were or where they were coming from. Today, I managed to get a decent picture of one and did an image search.

Turns out it was a Bruchid beetle. When I read up on them, it said they hatch out of a bean, having been laid during the summer. It was then that I remembered I had put some of my Borlotti beans from the allotment into the little space in the cupboard above the fridge to dry out and I’d completely forgotten about them. This was the state of the beans:

Of course, when I got up to have a good look it was infested! What's more, they had been dropping into the fridge each time the door was opened and there were quite a few dead ones in the top door shelf/tray and even more squished in the door seal.

I had to give it a good clean out and I’ve been told quite firmly, no more Borlotti beans next year!
Our fridge is very similar to yours.

Does it make a vibration noise when it’s full ?

When my fridge was vibrating, I had to check the feet under it. Next time when it's vibrating, grab a spirit level and see if the fridge is level.

Also, don't just chuck in heavy loaded items on one side. Similar to a washing machine, you need a equal load.

Have lost 1.5 stone in hospital basically sitting and lying in a bed.

Have just spent my first day at home. Was told a week last Monday that I could go home. It's taken a week to get me home. It wasn't NHS ambulances that brought me back, but private. Meanwhile, you can go on a private ambo website and ask to hire an NHS ambulance??? Seems a well messed up system.

What really made me angry was not so much that I couldn't go home, but that there were literally people lining up in the corridors of A and E below waiting for beds, some elderly and frail.

And I sat there for a full week while an incompetent system failed to get their arses in gear and get me home.

Great to hear your home for Christmas. Wishing you a merry xmas and a speedy recovery.
