Thought about buying a proper pool table, but we don't have room for one. Boo!

Maybe a circular table will fit. Not necessarily recommending it though. Last played on one in my youth in the mid 80s - Shagaluf, Majorca. Weird experience as it's very hard to predict how ball will bounce off a curved cushion. The gallon or two of San Miguel probably made matters worse. Seen an L- shaped billiard table as well.

Why the new chain, Mottie?
The reason I ask, if it was for reasons of wear , it is good practice to also change the chainrings and sprockets too (as the whole drive train tends to wear to match itself).
Therefore, your new chain won't match your worn cogs.
However, you'll know far more about mechanical stuff than I, and will be able to judge this for yourself.
And you'll have an excuse to do some more fiddling (y)

Last time I changed my bike chain was about 4 years ago when I measured the stretch in the old one and was shocked how much it had stretched. It's an old 18 gear late 80s MTB. The old chain had been on for 20 years, but the bike hadn't been used for many of those years. I found that when I put the new chain on old chainrings and sprockets the only problem was a slight slip on the largest sprocket (in highest/18th gear) when pedalling hard. After a while, it bedded in and no more slipping.

I'm a lot more careful about chain maintenance now and find that after fitting a quality chain (KMC), regular cleaning and oiling with quality oil means it hasn't stretched at all even though it's had lots of hard use recently.

Same here although I insist we all eat at meal times together - at the dining table.
We are the same even now there’s only the two of us at home now. I cannot abide eating dinner on your lap watching the telly. Rude, rude, rude and anti-social!

It’s the only time we have together, teatime around the table, it’s only happened since lockdown so at least something good has come out of it. We look forward to it now.

With my previous wife we sat in separate rooms to eat, never mind separate chairs around the TV!

These days we both sit at a table and have sensible conversations while we have lunch or dinner. Breakfast tends to be a serve yourself when you feel like it unless we are having a cooked one, in which case we sit at the table together.
