What have you bought today?

A pack of jigsaw blades. Broke my last blade sawing up our Christmas tree. I’m presuming they are genuine DeWalt ones - the description is Spanish? Not going to be doing any precision work - just for cutting up timber over the allotment making beds and benches etc.

10 LED G4 bulbs for the kitchen cupboard lamps to replace the constantly blowing halogen ones. Going to give them a try - I must have replaced them over 200 times in the time we've been here. Hopefully just a straight replacement.

Yeah I’ve bought a few Dewalt things from Amazon and they’ve come from Spain…they are legit :)

I found the straight replacements to be shoite.
Tried a number of different brands too.
They probably didn't like the fittings.

Might be better long-term, to replace the fittings too.

Yes I found LED substitutes a bit crap in the last house which had a dozen or more spotlights. Ended up just buying replacement halogen bulbs off ebay in bulk. Downside is we now have about 15 spare.

2003 1.9 Tdi Pd100 Golf estate, been looking for one since I had to scrap my 1999 Polo estate the middle of last year, had to pay strong money for it but at least its got some usable space in it which is more than can be said for more up to date offerings
Hooked it up to the brick today, no fault codes and all functions running within specs..not bad for a nearly 20 year old with 152k on it

Just been posted through my door. Replaced two blown ones so far - I’ll replace the others as and when they blow, working fine at the moment - fingers crossed! They say these led's are rated as 'F' on the new scale which (according to them) are the equivalent of 'A+' on the old scale. Is that right?

I have no idea, but I have been a bit dismayed to be recently buying LED lamps that are rated similarly.
We have been conditioned to expect LEDs to run on a fairy's feert, so to see "F" doesn't sit right.

This was in the box:

TBH, I’m not that bothered if they are no cheaper to run than standard 10w bulbs, I just hope the last a fair bit longer.

I didn't know about the change so I've just been swotting up!

It looks like F rating will take about 1.5W to produce the same as 10W incandescent.

It looks like they changed the rating because they were having to add too many +++ to the A and it was getting silly. They've left headroom for newer, more efficient bulbs to come along, so previously highly rated bulbs now only get an F.

I have just been looking for a new fridge/ freezer for my P-i-Ls.

Apparently, F is the new A+.

Try telling your old man that when you come home from school......

LED lamps are quite sensitive to heat build-up. Whereas with the old tungsten lamps type lamps, heat made no difference to them, the limiting factor was how much heat from the lamp the fitting could withstand, it's the LED operating temperature which is now of most concern, due to the electronics.

I have replaced almost all the lamps in my home with LED. The only problem has been an outdoor, enclosed, small lantern type fitting, where the 8w LED's twice, only survived around 18 months each. At the third replacement, I decided to attempt to modify the the fitting, from no ventilation, to just a small amount - I made some tiny vent holes in the bottom and top. So far, the lamp has survived around three years, so I am hopeful.
