I think one problem is Smart is not always best, the Nest thermostat does a lot by learning rather than being told, but the Hive thermostat is rather basic in comparison, but because Hive has linked TRV heads and Nest does not, as long as the TRV heads are fitted Hive often does a better job.
But that is not only true with machines, keeping it simple often works better.
