That means all cars towing Matilda's horse box including horse, are uninsured, but the police don't do much.

As a Horse box will be BS complient and commercially manufactured, not made in your backgarden, it would be allowed..READ THE POST..

I just read all the information at the link to DVLA above..although i knew I can leaglly drive 7.5 tonners with a trailer up to 12T, I was not aware that the entitlements on my license also allows me to drive a passenger vehicle up to 16 seats..not that I've ever had a need...I thought it had been removed when they changed it all..

I DID READ THE POST!!!!!

Something about not exceeding the towing capacity of the car, a horse box, especially a double one with horse cargo WOULD EXCEED THE TOWING CAPACITY AND THE MAXIMUM TRAIN WEIGHT of most cars, and certainly the ones I have seen towing boxes.

In that sense Oilman I agree...and perhaps the Police should start enforcing this...

I thought the hoity toighty horsey set only drove range rovers? ;)

which brings us back to that joke about the difference between a rangerover and a hedgehog.

If offered a lift, do sit in the horsebox, else be picking spines outa yersen. :D

More towing info ..... http://www.4x4web.co.uk/trailers-and-towing.html

I think silly laws are laws which are not properly policed or understood ...
....... it was admitted that only 1 per cent. of all continental tachographs are examined. It was further admitted by the European Commission that 40 per cent. of those tachographs were found to be at fault either they had been fiddled or mistakes had been made......
We are subject to the full weight of the law, which provides a good living here for some, whereas, it appears, other states sign up to the laws and appear to disregard them anyway... Are we the whipping boys of the EU and our own legal profession ?

You can tow a trailer with a solo motorcycle...but you can`t drive a tricycle(Reliant) on a NEW full motorcycle liscence

Isn't that because (as it has always been because) the Reliant has a reverse gear?

AFAIK that was originally the way that the law drew a distinction between the types of 3-wheeled vehicles - M/C + sidecar, trike and 3-wheeled car.....

The reverse gear prohib went out in the 70`s  maybe late 60`s.they took out the trike/car entitlement just a few yrs ago.very quietly, and because of the EU and lightweight "cars" and quadricycles  Either way a new biker has to get both car+bike tests to get out of the weather in the winter

Driving a Reliant Robin on a motorcycle licence was always one of those things that proved laws can sometimes be a little silly.

A 3-wheeled car stands by itself when stationary, it does not lean into corners, a u-turn does not require engine/clutch balance, the driver is not on the centreline of the vehicle etc. etc.

It drives like a car. Not a particularly stable car, granted, but the skills to drive a 3-wheeled car are the same as those for a 4-wheeled car.

Remember the Citroen DS could be driven missing one rear wheel, can't imagine someone taking a wheel off then driving it as a bike ;)

As to the reverse gear prohibition, good thing they took it out! My instructors Honda Goldwing had reverse gear, he reckoned it was a nightmare to push backwards under foot power alone so really did need it (remember this is a 6-cylinder bike!). I've got a feeling the largest of the BMW tourers comes with it too.

regarding uk licences, can anyone who has one, drive any where in the world, or vice/versa can any body in the world drive in the uk ?

You can get an "international driving licence". Only selected national driving licences make you eligible. You just have to see such wonders as the Indian driving test to see why not all are accepted!

Your UK licence however, would probably be accepted there, one should think.

Good for you ,Adam....one of the few people who don`t say Robin Reliant ;) Like a Escort Ford
