what licence needed?

With enough ingenuity, you never need to tow a trailer...

I particularly like the ones where people are used as load restraining devices, and if you look at the closeup of #3, that's not a pair of wellies stuffed inside, apparently there was a (live) person rolled up in that blanket...

Driving a Reliant Robin on a motorcycle licence was always one of those things that proved laws can sometimes be a little silly.

A 3-wheeled car stands by itself when stationary, it does not lean into corners, a u-turn does not require engine/clutch balance, the driver is not on the centreline of the vehicle etc. etc.

It drives like a car. Not a particularly stable car, granted, but the skills to drive a 3-wheeled car are the same as those for a 4-wheeled car.

Remember the Citroen DS could be driven missing one rear wheel, can't imagine someone taking a wheel off then driving it as a bike ;)

As to the reverse gear prohibition, good thing they took it out! My instructors Honda Goldwing had reverse gear, he reckoned it was a nightmare to push backwards under foot power alone so really did need it (remember this is a 6-cylinder bike!). I've got a feeling the largest of the BMW tourers comes with it too.

The permitting of driving these vehicles on a motorcycle licence was due to the weight of the vehicle not the number of wheels. The Reliant Kitten had four wheels but could be driven on a motorcycle licence due to its weight being below the threshold.

I just read all the information at the link to DVLA above..although i knew I can leaglly drive 7.5 tonners with a trailer up to 12T, I was not aware that the entitlements on my license also allows me to drive a passenger vehicle up to 16 seats..not that I've ever had a need...I thought it had been removed when they changed it all..

If you get a new licence (e.g. because you change address) you will probably find that the entitlement will no longer be on the licence - unless you specify that you require it and agree to a medical.

I've been looking into buying a Routemaster, now they're not being used any more and as long as you take less than 8 passengers, and no-one's paying, then apparently you can drive one on a standard car licence.

However, the £6.5 - 10k price and the 8-10 mpg is putting me off a bit......
