When did diesel cars get complicated?

Lower gears don't increase emissions. It may frustrate progress and it may increase safety. It may also help overall.
I stand corrected, I had assumed that the greater number of revolutions over a given distance would increase both emissions & fuel consumption.

2000 rpm (or any other engine speed)
in 1st 2nd or any other gear is still 2000rpm.

Driving at 20mph at 4000rpm for example would be worse than 40mph@2000rpm. But also 30 @3000 would be worse than 20@ 2000 etc

Fuel consumption is worst when accelerating or stood still. Slowly moving traffic would therefore be less bad than stop start traffic. A supposed benefit of lower speed limits in congested areas.

Electric would be better of course

As said before, I wouldn't get too worried about 20 limits. We've had this for years in Bristol. At first many people stuck to it, but eventually most drifted back to 30. These days you stand out if you stick to the 20 limit and a small queue of cars will form behind you. Only learners and old ladies driving a Honda Jazz stick to 20 now.

That's only human nature, nobody wants to be responsible for holding up traffic & doing so can even invoke the wrath of moronic drivers.
I assume the 20 limit isn't being rigidly enforced ?

Many people mention old diesels here, but you cant drive them into cities these days and i give it a couple of years before loony labour bring in more loony green rules to ban them completely.

I'd like to ask you 3 questions.

  1. Whose idea was it to have a low emission zone in London?
  2. Of the over 500 low-emission zones active or expected by next year in Europe alone, how many are in places with a loony labour government?
  3. Do you have a figure for the number of people you are prepared to see have their health ruined or to even die prematurely in order that drivers may continue to drive dangerously polluting vehicles?

Is it just me, or have the lunatics taken over the asylum

No, they haven't done that.

But they are running around on the internet posting lies about, and insane objections to, any restrictions on what they see as their inalienable right to drive what they want, where they want, when they want, and as fast as they want.

There is a third group.

Law-abiding motorists.

Obviously not a group you belong to. Here's hoping you get banned.

Simple solution.

Enforce the law, and remove moronic drivers like you and ReganAndCarter from the roads.

I hope you are not insinuating that I am a moronic driver as that is grossly insulting to someone like myself with more driving experience than a great many posting on this forum .. 61 years conviction-free driving with around 28 of those as a HGV/PSV professional.

I simply responded to R&C's post about speed enforcement in his area & in no way implied my approval of those choosing to ignore speed limits, but simply commented on the pressures that can be felt by those obeying the law in the face of widespread disapproval.

There isn't much enforcement. Hardly see any traffic enforcement from police - in fact hardly see police at all unless speeding somewhere with blues and twos. In 80s and 90s there were always police cars milling about or parked in side roads waiting to pounce - day or night. Now it's a speeders' and/or drink drivers' paradise. I cycle about at night sometimes long distances to local hostelries and rarely see any police. There are some fixed Gatsos, but everyone knows where they are and most are decommissioned. Very occasionally there will be a camera van in the area in several locations for a day or two, then you won't see it again for 18 months.

Whoa! Get Mr Perfect. 30 was fine for decades, why is 20 suddenly essential?

Don't forget - rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obeyance of fools. You are definitely the latter.

Hope you choke on your own smug stupidity, tw@t! And enjoy your Honda Jazz. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

(38 endorsement free years of driving, no accidents)

That's cutbacks for you
