Usually due to an embedded picture that your browser is unable to display. The most common reason is that the author of the page put the wrong path in the src attribut of the IMG tag. Another possibility is that the link refers to a file type that is not known by your browser.

In short, either your browser cannot find the file or it doesn't know how to handle it when it does.

Perhaps if you give us the address of the page with the problem, we may be able to sus out what the issue is.

ok thanks for that......i should add...that if i right click on the white boxes and hit properties, i get a 'not available' next to the file type.....which idicates to me what you have said is certainly on the right track..here is the site i am having the difficulty with..

http://www.hamilton-acorn.co.uk/PublicContent/Pro_Default.asp

click on..prefessional decorator/product datasheets/anything under the hamilton section.

Im using I.E Version SP1

Thanks

The images you are talking about are just a .gif file format. It could be, that the first time your browser attempted to load the page, it didn't get access to the image.

The image you are missing is this
brush_bullet.gif

If you see a paint brush in this post then your browser is able to display the image so perhaps it has misread the page and you are now seeing a cached version of the poorly rendered page.

Try to go back to the page and click on the refresh button on your browser.

Have a look on the Advanced tab of your Internet Options (under Tools). In the Multimedia section there is an option to display pictures or not. If the tick box is empty you will see only blank boxes with a small symbol in the corner.

Another possibility is that some security software is blocking the image. For example, Outpost Firewall will block images of particular sizes by default because it assumes they're pop-ups.

Thanks for that, but the problem is still there unfortunatly...I can indeed see the little paint brush on te page....but its when I click 'perfection s series' i have the problem....I have just noticed two boxes come up....first is a box with a coloured circle a square and a triangle.......then it changes to the white box with the red triangle.

I have also tried refreshing the page....and re setting the defaults in the internet options page.....still no joy.. :(

Any other thoughts?....

Thanks.

Ah, I see, it's when you click it you get problems. Those links are to .PDF files. Have you got adobe acrobat loaded? If not go to Adobe's site to download it.

Thanks for that texmex and others.....

I downloaded adboe...it was on the system before but I got an update...only version 6 though as im not running x.p

The problem with the Hamiltion sire pictures and files was sorted no problem...so thanks for that....

However..I still cant get certain pics....I can get seome big ones...some small...but i was recently looking at a series of photos....all more or less the same and very similar content (no...not porn either!!)

Six of them were fine....one wouldnt show...had the red cross again.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

First do a disk cleanup (Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup). Make sure that at least temp files, temp internet files are checked.

You could also look at this thread.
