Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good whole house water filter/descaler system?
My water supplier, United Utilities, changed our supply from relatively soft, reservoir water to very hard, clinical-tasting water and I'm seeing deposits on bathroom fittings and in my kettle. I'm more worried about my heatpump and underfloor heating though.
The 3M AP903 seems good as a filter at 76 litres/minute but I'd need a separate descaler. I looked at UK Water Filters' "Whole of House Filter Plus Saltfree Scale Reduction - Larger Homes" at 32 litres/minute which would be fine for a heatpump according to what I've read and one of my showers which flows up to 16 litres/minute plus it does everything in one package but it's half the flow rate of the 3M unit, the filters will cost £700 every two years and 3M is obviously a well-respected brand. There's also Water Filter Man's EcoPlus XL which works out quite a bit cheaper.
I see lots of types of descaler though including simple magnetic inline ones - do they not eventually fur up and need replacing?
Thanks.
