Why are solicitors so slow

Its still done the same now, but its the solicitors that sign & take the can.

When have you ever heard of a solicitor "taking the can"

In reality there is no can to carry, solicitors are no different than any other trade or profession in that they indemnify themselves.

Regarding the charges, I was once sat in my solicitors office, who I know personally, and he was writing a letter. It was no different than any other computer programme in that he just filled in the boxes in a prewritten letter. He told me the programme is paid for annually and automatically updates to suit law changes. These programmes allow the typists to do the work whilst he is out and contained letters to suit most common circumstances. They don't spend ages reading anymore, except I suppose, criminal lawyers who wouldn't have a computer with them in court.

My accountant has a similar set up which keeps track of tax changes.

Their jobs are so much easier now with these types of programme but obviously their fees still reflect their past way of working.

That's 'cos us computer programmers rip solicitors and accountants off, and they are simply passing the charges on (feeling a little cynical today :D)

Thanks for the tips. I'll call my solicitor for a progress report on Tuesday. Hopefully, if I offer my services to wait around in offices, we will be able to get it pushed through.

Yes, what you must do is to say to the vendor, I can offer £XXX,XXX as long as there is completion by X date. Make it clear these are your terms and stick to them. They want your cash, so they will pressure the system to deliver completion by the deadline.

But, you have to keep on at the legals too.

Solicitors are lazy and greedy, and unless you are nagging them every day, they will put you on the back burner and deal with some other more lucrative business that requires less input.

Get a Solicitor...on record ...Not an nod /wink to your say so.. you want it in WRITING

If you do proceed on a Solicitor letter , the one sent to you ,when long cases are outstanding ,chains etc ...

A MAYOR THING ,.....THE LAW SOCIETY ,Who shy away from solicitors complaints .NOW ..

we had 89 % against The Law Society ,regarding Solicitors

In my case I got 256K from my awful solicitor over the the flat deal

Just how accountable are solicitors regarding conveyancing ??i have just bought a property and now 6months later all sorts of problems have come to light, ie rights of way which I was not informed of ???

Try going back to the solicitors who did the work for you.

If you are not satisfied, make a formal complaint in writing, telling them that if you are not satisfied with their response you will get in touch with the Solicitors Complaints Bureau (or whatever they are known as today - is it the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors, or something like that).

It called The Law Society, I has to use them a few years ago because of the slowish of buying my property.

You could also ask the question 'why do solicitors defend scum and vermin in court.

The answers the same......money!

I detest them.

Perhaps I am judging my solicitory too harshly. I got a phone call from her on Tuesday morning (yes she actually called me!). Although she hasn't yet got the search results back, she wants me to go up there this Thursday to sort out the details of the contract.

She sounds pretty much on the case. Here's hoping.

When we bought a house about 20 years ago we used a licensed conveyancer instead of a solicitor. He was much cheaper than a solicitor and he did a good job for us.
