Will Trump deliver what he has promised?

He's right. It's not racist to resist having you country's population expanded massively by corrupt politicians who promise to do the opposite, putting huge strain on housing, healthcare, schools, roads, etc, etc. It's just incidental that the millions flocking here are usually from a different race. There's little incentive for millions of Belgians or Norweigans to decamp to UK, but those from poorer undeveloped (some never to develop) countries have a lot to gain.

Seems like even immigrants have worked out that overloading the lifeboats benefits no one.
Poorer people are always attracted to the centres of wealth and power.
This is one of the reasons why empires collapse.
With European decolonisation the rest of the world was free to roam in search of the shiny stuff they saw on their Chinese smart phones.
Ancient Rome had the same problem, as the Romans retreated from empire they were followed by hordes of former subjects of the empire.

Once word had spread of free Bread and Circuses to be had in Rome, that was the beginning of the end.

Trump and war
Hegseth was a major in the Minnesota national guard who served as a prison guard at Guantánamo Bay detention camp and served in Iraq and Afghanistan before becoming an outspoken rightwing critic of the military.

He has argued for
faster provision of more US weapons to Ukraine for its defence against Russia, but also called US Nato membership into question. His nomination is also a boost for the far right in Israel, as he has shown support for territorial expansion and suggested that Jews could build a new temple on the sacred compound around al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, known to Jews as the Temple Mount.

Hegseth told an audience in Jerusalem in 2018: “There’s no reason why the miracle of the re-establishment of the temple on the Temple Mount is not possible.”

Given the noises Trump makes and some people now around him even serious pundits point out that they have no idea what he will actually do.

A more recent comment on deportation included letting some back in.

I think it'll be very interesting to see how many of the more contentious appointments actually come to pass. It'll also be interesting to see, when faced with the day to day realities, how much the Trump administration actually can deliver when it comes to getting tough on the border, immigration and 'making America great again' in terms of the economy.

I have to be honest, in my view, if a country actually does want to resolve challenges like borders, immigration etc, it can surely only happen if said country gets tough on delivering it. That's where it falls down. Take the UK. Lots of talk, very little action and results.

I won't be at all surprised if the small boats are still coming when Labour nears the end of its term.

There may be another factor on his extreme appointments - assuming the senate pass them. What to do with a boat rocker - in some cases promote them to a position where they are responsible. It changes their behaviour.

Agree.

But the difference is that they are recognising where the problem starts, and aiming at that. Not just at the end result where it's too late to do anything

It's just common sense, really, to wear a mask which prevents spreading your germs around during flu season, let alone a pandemic...or do you just blow your nose through your fingers?
Masks prevent nothing.

Hopefully you’re up to date with your boosters etc ? Gotta be careful at your age old bean

common sense and being forced to do something because your told its the science are two different things and if masks work was do the majority of flue epidemics start in the far east were wearing masks is an everyday thing
It has been since the SARS outbreak 20 years ago. Nobody thinks it's out-of-place - in fact, they really consider it bad form to wander round in public, spreading germs like an olfactory missile. If y'all stopped projectile vomiting your conspiracy theories across the Interwebs we'd all be a lot healthier for it.
