Do you have to make a will through a solicitor or is there another way ? say through the bank or summat?

It's something people don't really think about.

I'm waiting for the funny response from the usual suspects, ;) .

If it's a simple will just leaving stuff to the wife and kids then you can get a Will writing pack off the shelf from the likes of WH Smith.

There are also Will writing websites which seem to cope well with fairly straightforward situations.

If you need something more complex, maybe you're not married, have children from previous relationships or you want to specifically exclude someone, then you'll probably want to get advice from a professional who carries insurance for if anything goes wrong.

This can be either a solicitor or a Will writing practitioner.

If I am one of the usual suspects, then on this occasion you will be disappointed.
This is something I need to do, so I will await sensible replys in anticipation.

If your a member of a union, some offer this service free of charge,
but as mentioned you can get will kits at WHS and of the internet, I think the solicitors near me charge about £50 for setting a will up.

here was an elderly man at home, upstairs, dying in bed. He smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip biscuit baking. He wanted one last biscuit before he died. He led down the stairs and crawled into the kitchen where his wife was busily baking.

With his last remaining strength he crawled to the table and was just barely able to lift his withered arm to the biscuit tray. As he grasped a warm, moist chocolate chip biscuit, his favorite kind, his wife suddenly whacked his hand with a spatula.

Gasping for breath, he asked her, "Why did you do that?"

"Those are for the funeral."

Mine are free through the union I've been a lifelong member of; the paperwork for the latest update has been sitting on my desk for 3 months though waiting to be completed  perhaps I should have a chocolate biscuit with me tea while I still can

Have a look at this, newgas. Then have a look at this. I seriously hope you are not considering epitaphs, but if so how about,"I told I you I was sick." ;)

What's worse than making a will?
Being asked by your kids, if you've made a will and are they in it. ;) ;)

The little girl rushed into her Grandfathers bedroom ahead of her Grandmother and asked Granddad to please make a sound like a frog when Granny comes in.

Confused Granddad asked why on earth do you want me to do that?

The little girl replied, "I heard Granny say to mummy that as soon as you croaked, we would all go to Disneyland."

Also some unions, allow your partner to have a will made out free of charge too, this obviously works both ways, so if your partner is in a union you can have a will made out by them, FOC!

Yes, I have heard that it was accredited to Spike, as well as Woody Allen, who, incidentally, said this, ”I was nauseous and tingly all over. I was either in love or I had smallpox”. ;)
