Yep, tried that.

I have just noticed that the fuel filter on the side of the house that feeds the boiler appears to be empty!
The oil tank is on 4/10 on the watchman so plenty fuel.

There is what looks like three filter type things on the feed coming in on my wall, the first ( nearest the tank ) has a drain plug on the bottom, which when I loosen has fuel in it, second one has a copper pickup solid pipe that comes off it and the final one is a see through type filter that looks empty..
I take it that the fuel pump is on the side of the burner?

First two, first one has a bolt in the bottom ( drain plug) which when I loosen fuel comes out.

Last one before boiler ( no fuel in it)

Press button firmly and see if it clicks!

Yes I pushed it and it clicked and went up however boiler still did not start it just locked out again

Give it a couple of tries. You may need to prime the oil pump by putting the suction hose in kerosene!

Ok thank you. What would of made it trip? Is there likely to be an underlying problem that needs fixed?

Check that the capillary tube is not in a hot zone or touching a hot surface inside the boiler casing!

Well that me up and running again, thanks to everyone that helped, much appreciated....

I now need to do two other small jobs on the boiler that I'm unsure of......
Any help /advice very welcome

1) I was told a while ago that the expansion vessel had water in it and needed to be drained and re pressured.
2) the auto air vent is leaking water and needs changing, I believe to change this the system needs de pressurised before doing this, how do I de and re pressurised the system

Are these jobs I can do myself or do they require specialist tools etc?

Hi, well the fire valve tripped due to the capillary tube touching a very hot piece of metal in the boiler!
Exactly what Terry said..
So after moving the capillary tube off the boiler and learning how to bleed the fuel back to the boiler we have heating and hot water again and a clean son!

Nice one Terry.

Might be worth adding that it is not uncommon for a fire valve to be fitted rated at 65c.

Most boilers require a 90c fire valve, so might be worth checking the brass valve body, where the temp rating is marked.
