I phoned the local magistrates court to see whether my details had been lodged with them.
As per info on Stivinos link and advice from court official, the case has to be logged with the court within 6 months of the offence for a hearing to go ahead.
The court had no trace of me and so I was told that there would not be any action.
If I had opted to ignore the ticket I (or my case) would have made an appearance before the judge.
