I was in screwfix yesterday getting some bolts, and two shady looking characters were buying a wylex plastic board. Let's hope it got installed yesterday!

One legitimate reason to buy a plastic board now - It is CHEAPER than a single Wylex 80amp RCD on its own, plus you get a Main Switch and the enclosure for the same price or a penny less than buying an RCD on its own!! - Save the enclosure to house din-rail mount items in such as timers and spare parts - this application is exempt from the 01-01-16 regulations.

Very true. They were buying breakers and stuff too so no doubt it was going in as a consumer unit. People will still be buying them and expecting their sparks to fit them for a few weeks I'm sure

those projects with a start date of last year - although I still think this is a bit of a sketchy loophole.
The usual term is planned before the introduction of the new regulations.

As you say - more a loophole really as far as domestic installations are concerned.

The earth bar looks a little lacking.
Probably assumes 2 of the circuits are for lighting or for 2-pin sockets, which wouldn't be earthed in The Good Old Days.
Yes, that could well have been the case. I might also have expected one larger hole in the earth block for a decent sized 'incoming earth connection' (as with the neutral block).

Kind Regards, John

they didn't have large earth cables in those days.

I removed an ancient BILL unit with similar earth terminals, and the incoming earth has been split between two terminals!

Also lacking in the number of earth terminals and wires had just be wrapped around other bare earth wires in some cases.

Go back a bit further and there a quite a few old installs where the main earth and the cpcs are twisted together outside the fusebox and all soldered together.
