The strange thing is, if I suddenly decided to research an ancient forgotten religion and found they mutilated their offspring by cutting off both ears or something, and then declared myself a 'believer', I'd be quite rightly imprisoned for attempting to carry out such a lunatic act in the name of said religion.

Yet this circumcision lunacy in the name of religion is allowed to continue practically around the planet LAWFULLY.

I am just critical of someone, the O/P, questioning that our society believes in nothing yet his own Religion believes in child abuse. (Yes I know I keep saying that and I don’t intend to change my definition because that is what it is!).

It is not “useless”, it has a purpose which I have tried to explain and took the time to link to someone who has done extensive research on this. If Naz denies the biological explanation for its purpose, instead of making false claims of the 'benefits', and isn’t bothered on ethical grounds we still have no reply to the question of why god, in his infinite wisdom, chose to put something “useless” there.

What it tells me, yet again, is when defending a religion or a sordid disgusting part of it people will do or say almost anything in its defence - or to save face. I used to have this exact argument when I was living in America and the illogical and irrational replies were truly staggering.

Fortunately, with the greater understanding and information being disseminated In America, thanks to people like Dr Dean Edell, the tide is turning. We now have Americans fighting against this child abuse and campaigns where men feel their right not to be circumcised have been violated. But they had no say in the matter like every child which is abused in this way has no right, just because of their ignorant religion.

Is when ANYONE tries to make out that somehow their religion, race or culture is better than anyone elses.

ALL societies have their bad points don't try and kid on that yours is different or better because it's not........whoever you are

I'm no Quranic scholar so dont know where exactly in the Quran and but i have read hadiths (known actions/views of the prophet).

anyway the 4 wives ruling was probably made more as a punihsment for men then anything. I mean think about it, 4 wives means 4 mother-in-laws!! What man would seriously want to be in that predicament?

Big Tone i never said this society doesnt believe in anything. The title of this thread was the title of the article i was referring to. It wasnt my views but the views of the author, who, from what i can gather, is not a Muslim.

The human body is perfect and the forskin issue is a non-issue.

When you buy a new product, it comes wrapped up to protect it.

Same with the willy. Its wrapped in skin to protect it during delivery. Once delivered, the skin/packaging can come off

You still havent proven to me the human body is not perfectly designed. I have stated my case, that everything is on the human body for a purpose, from the internal organs to the external skin, sweat glands etc, it all has its purpose. Its the perfect design

More like working in the field. During the 80’s I was a good role model to my daughter and she never knew me ‘spread it around’ because I didn’t; I was celibate for a long time. I was glad later, however, when friends on mine suddenly got very jittery over the newly discovered AIDS virus. My last girlfriend was three years ago. When you get to my age, finding an available attractive woman who isn’t a nut is neigh on impossible. They either talk incessantly about their kids or have cats and dogs. Cats I don’t mind but I’ve never understood why someone, anyone, thinks a 140dB bark is cute or having talons scrapping away at your flesh is such an attractive friendly gesture of love.

I don't know the reasoning behind a muslim man being allowed more than one wife but the practice amongst mormons I do understand having worked with and had it explained to me by a mormon.
The mormon faith was being formed during the expansion across what is now America and fatalities among the menfolk was experienced from hostile natives. This obviously left widows and the religion solved the problem of destitute women and kids by allowing that woman to marry into another family. All in all a very practical solution I felt.
However, what then let it down for me was the ruling that no hot drinks such as tea or coffee were allowed, not to mention alcohol of course. So no boiling of water in unknown lands? Seems a bit soft to me.
On the circumcision issue I'm fully with Big tone, either God isn't perfect himself or else he's cocked up a bit(no pun really intended therte) and made a mistake when he created us. Also if it's a test of faith why is it done to small children who have no concept of God and faith? Why not wait until a persons 18th birthday at least so that he has had time to consider everything?
