No, they can go back to France.
They chose to pay people smugglers (illegally) to come here.
No, they didn't. Most bought a plane ticket and flew here. Don't believe the lies the papers tell you to believe.
Your chart tried to show that the majority of arrivals were those by boat. it did not show the full picture. It only showed those detected at certain points: ports and airports, and the small number of undocumented migrants discovered elsewhere. Therefore it's a mis-diection. The other group, the visa over-stayers, were included in JP's statement. They are not detected on arrival. You must be looking at a different chart to me. It tells you the total number of detected unauthorised arrivals and splits it into air arrivals, arrivals at ports and small boat arrivals. Is there any other way into the UK?
It will not include over stayers, but does include detected undocumented immigrants.
Over stayers aren't being put in hotels or barges anyway, so irrelevant.
But you've now clouded the issue by suggesting that the discussion is merely about accomodation. The thread may have been started about that, but like all threads, it's meandered.
JP's point holds true, the boat arrivals are a small part of the overall immigrants. I quoted 3.8% of all immigrants are boat arrivals. that's a small percentage of the overall number, but it attracts all the right-wing xenophobic press.
