Energy efficiency directives will be the same whether we are in the EU or not. 'Tis you that does not understand.

Ah I see.

50% purchase tax would be alright as long as it's British and they don't call it import duty.
But if there was a 50% import duty on Japanese cars we could target the British idiots who negotiated that deal through our elected MPs

But highly unlikely since the Japanese do like a lot of British stuff, I understand that they were a bit miffed when they announced the start of negotiations between the EU and Japan, that the UK wouldn't be included in the EU deal

well yes we know that noseall but its an EU directive that is the point

a carp directive < many manus were not even given fair warning and had to recall appliances , alter advertising literature and packaging

the EU even went as far as trying to force manus to supply a complete energy package with every boiler , total nonsense tbh and eventually it got stopped that would have caused massive issues and problems for the industry
go talk to the MD of worcestor who wrote an article in the trade press on the subject.

The Single Market and to prevent the UK becoming a fourth tier economic nation? Do you think the UK could be a financial success without the Single Market?
FFS, yes of course the UK can and I'm sure will be a financial success outside of the single market... You still don't get what the single market is and why it must continually grow do you? once it stagnates or shrinks, then it is curtains for the EU

.
I think you will find that these directives are difined by a GLOBAL agreement and that irrespective of whether we were in the EU or not, we would still have the same restrictions in place. Maybe more.

It's not a deal. It is (would be) a tax.
Of course Import duty is a tax but this is one of the things that trade deals cover, the import duty on various kinds of goods..We could lower the import duty on Japanese cars and they could adjust the import duty on goods that they want from us...So highly unlikely that it would be 50% and we could sell them more British made cars....The advantage to this is that the EU based owners of British car plants would sell more cars and then be inclined to move MORE of their manufacturing out of the EU and into the UK....Which then kick starts British manufacturing.

For domestic consumption?
