Asda

Usually in places like Tesco, Sainsbury's etc., I find longer dates on meat and veg etc., than Aldi.

Sainsburys have taken the actual dates off some of their fruit and veg. Other supermarkets have also done this, but it's still possible to work it out from other info on the label. But I can't find any way of doing that with Sainsburys labels. Does anyone know how to do it?

Depends on the supermarket.

Waitrose add three numbers on the end of the supplier code. This is the day of the year.

Tesco and Asda use A-L as a code for the months, followed by the day of the month. Eg, A23 is 23rd January.

Some like Aldi and I believe Lidl, use a day/week code.

You'll see a 4 digit code on the front of the pack.

First pair is week number, second pair is day number.
These are not sell by or use by but packing or picking dates.

So, first week in Jan=01, Monday=01, Sunday=07.

Sainsbury's and others may have different systems.

Edit.

Sainsbury's have the date between the letters J and S.

Eg, J0312S would be 3rd December.
