well i think banning the burkha is just silly, and nonsensical. I can walk down the street with a baseball cap and shades on, or a full face mask if that volcanic dust clouds comes this way again, or a motorbike helmet, or a scarf round my face if it's cold....(or if it's hot, and i choose to).....
But the burkha think is simple, as long as burkha wearers respect English(uk?) law..... and have id and facial photos... i don't need to see their photos, but the people who do...do! So if they go into a bank, they simply drop the veil....
IT'S ALL ABOUT ETTIQUETTE!! simples!!
Yeah martian but if they're going to 'drop it' when in public places such as banks etc what's the point in wearing it at all? They either want to hide their captivating beauty from men, who will be consumed by it,
or they don't.
if it's that important, they could have a "revealling room" in the bank? a bit like the methodrone dispensing room in Boots...
and why should we question why they wear the thing? we're all free anren't we?
Don't get me wrong... as long as we all abide by british law, then i'm fine.... what about people giving out nightclub tickets in gorilla suits? it's got to be 2 way respect !!!!
Mutual Respect, yes I agree with you.
The problem with a 'revelling room' (assuming someone who is wearing the veil, burkha, hoodie, crash helmet, scarf, etc is doing so to hide their identity in order to commit a crime), is that by that time, they are already IN the bank or wherever.
My point has always been and still is, that from birth we learn from our parents and other peoples facial expressions what they are trying to communicate... smiling, frowning, grimace, sadness, crying, anger etc etc etc. Unless you have developed some amazing ability to 'read' someone's eyes then you cannot tell if they are a 'friend or foe'... unless they've got a gun, knife, etc in their hand by which point it could be too late. The 'tone' of voice is an indicator we use but we take in a range of signals when we are communicating with people face to face and the term 'face to face' came about for a reason! It's not like being on the telephone to someone. Someone on the telephone cannot harm us directly, they CAN harm us when they are face to face with us.
If someone came up to you with terrible burns scaring to their face or some other disfigurement that meant they could not fully express their feelings through facial expressions, you quickly go through a range of emotional thought processes. They're obvious, I won't bother elaborating. However, we still look for 'positive and/or negative' facial signals from that person, we can't help it, we've done it since birth. Those emotional thought processes are NOT the same when someone approaches you who has 'hidden' their face. We are naturally concerned and indeed fearful of someone who hides their face.
It is basic human nature to want to see someone's face and be cautious of someone who hides their face. That doesn't make you a racist!
