Hi. My boiler has developed a problem. To start and stop the boiler when needed I usually use the left of the 4 grey buttons on the front. For some reason it is no longer firing up. I don't think the fan is even coming on. The boiler will not even fire uo to heat the water. I did however manage to get it working 3 days ago and if you leave it alone it is fine (hot water and heating - ignites and goes out as it should). Last night I switched it off with the grey button but now it won't ignite again. Dial on front showing 1.5 bar and green light on front flashes quickly when I press the grey button. Also there is a red light inside the boiler when the hot water tap is on. It just will not start it's first initial fire up now. Any ideas please.

Fast flashing green light indicates a fault on these I believe.

Could be several things unfortunately without further info, but if fan is not attempting to spin it will be something at the start of the start up cycle.

Could just be a thermistor gone or may be as bad as the fan.

Logical fault finding using the MI's is the only answer.

You really need to call in a RGI to inspect.

The red light inside on DHW demand is correct and normal.

The flashing green light indicates a fault.

The boiler does have built in diagnostics but they have to be actuated from inside in accordance with the book.

If you could do that then we could make further suggestions.

Sometimes the pressure gauge sticks or blocks and there might be no pressure. Try increasing to 1.7 Bar and see if it moves and if that makes any difference.

Please edit the boiler model in the heading to read M90-24S.

Tony

Of the three lights, left light flashing is standby, left and right flashing is demand. left and right flashing with middle lite is ignition problem.

Its M90f-24s, as its a Garda.

How do I do this? I am now not sure if the fan is working.
Press grey button. Clicking and a wering noise-clicking for 5 seconds and wering nouse for a further 5 and then nothing. I seem to remember a louder whining noise which I thought was the fan. Hope this makes sense

Sadly you dont, the fan is within the combustion chamber behind silver panel. You should'nt open this

This is so frrustrating. Somehow the other day I managed to get it working and now it just won't fire - I should have just left it alone. Once I can diagnose the problem I am more than capable of having a go at repairing it ( I replaced the heat exchnger in January) .

Well if you did that then you know where the fan is

Check the pressure switch whilst your fiddling about ;)

I didnt have to go near the fan before as I believe this to be at the top right hand corner of the boiler (under the cover as you say) and the heat exchanger is at the back at the bottom. But it still doesn't help as I don't know if the fan is at fault.

Cross purpose here, OP you mean the plate HE. Craig was talking about/thought you meant the main HE.

Yep,thats it - plate HE.
But I did excactly as I am trying to do now. Found the cause by talking to you guys on this forum and then fixed it myself. Its just this time I think it is a bit more complicated as it seems it could be a number of different things. Fan, pressure switch (don't know where this is at the mo or how to check it), etc.
As I tried to explian, once it actually fires up and I don't touch the grey button to turn the boiler off, everything works properly - fan, flame, hot water ignition, everything.
Been all day on this and I think I may have to give up and call a plumber tomorrow

Lets go back to real basics. When was it last serviced?

Can you hear the fan running? this is important to try to see where the fault may lie.

Hi Dave.
As I tried to explain, when press the button I can hear clicking for 5 seconds and then a quiet wirring noise for a further 5 seconds and then nothing. I seem to remember a quite loud wirring noise before the boiler fired up which is no longer there. So bascally I think the fan is no longer working.

Sorry. Forgot to say that I don't know when it was last serviced. Certainly not in the last 2 years that I have been here.
