Big Brother Is Here

You cannot FF through adverts unless you're watching a recording; and how will SKY know, anyway?
People can always flip to a news channel to avoid them if they want.
Or not subscribe to SKY. Problem solved.

Ties in with my comment in another post. This is a situation where people power would work. I'm confident if a significant % of their subscribers rang up to say 'we're leaving you' there would be a change of policy ;)

I'm with Virgin and record most stuff these days so I can watch when I want and fast forward through ads. If Virgin forced the watching of ads even on recorded progs (e.g. for the first week after recording) I'd simply watch at a later date.

It's called technology ;)

What kind of technology allows them to know how you view their programmes in such a way?

And i wouldn't feel so smug about using Virgin. If this works for SKY then you can bet they'll use it too.

Being a little bit puzzled by a few things I simply Googled "Sky Ads" to clarify the situation.

Sky are selling the OPTION to be able to skip through ads for £5.

Bargain if you ask me.

The stuff in your house is network connected. Depending on the analytical software they're running, they'll know when you fart never mind when you're watching/pausing/fast forwarding telly.

Not sure I mentioned feeling smug being with Virgin, this part of my post indicates anything but:

I solved this problem years ago by recording all TV and just watching a whole recording the next day skipping through the ads. Only downside, is I'm a day behind with all the news.

Can't wait until tonight for the matches. Although I can't see Japan doing well, or Costa Rica, so probably a bit boring and predictable with Germany going through.

You're forgetting one major stumbling block. Brits will never stick together. They're great at fighting among themselves and can't wait to drop their neighbours in it with the authorities. But actually organising themselves and sticking it to their oppressors is completely beyond them. Much easier to go the Brit route of moaning and putting up. Big companies and government know we're mugs and will just go along with anything. :(

We need to be a bit more like our neighbours across The Channel. Vive la difference!

Do people still pay for Sky? Load of money for hundreds of channels of rubbish.

My brother still has the Sky box even though he stopped subscribing. The box seems to be doing things even when it's off. I hear it start up and whirring noises at regular intervals. Don't know why it does this when not in use.

Assuming he's still receiving via the satellite, if he disconnects the phone line, it'll become just a dumb tuner, with the same access to channels. But he won't be able to pay for films, etc.

I trust the people who will be moaning about a charge to skip ads won't be those calling for the abolition of the BBC in it's present ad free form? ;)

Tell us again how Japan and Germany did............. :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

I go and make a cuppa when the ad break comes on, I’d like to see Sky try and charge me for that
