I trust the people who will be moaning about a charge to skip ads won't be those calling for the abolition of the BBC in it's present ad free form? ;)
Its pretty easy to do without TV license nowadays. The commercial TV stations make all their content available on demand. Its only live telly and iPlayer you can't use. That and the need to have a separate recycling bin to deal with all the aggressive letters they send.

So you object to paying the cheapest TV/Radio subscription available?

And I guess that you don't understand how many media innovations the BBC has brought about?

It's also recognised as one of the best sources of information around the world, often in places that are oppressed and left without other ways of finding out what is happening outside their own countries...

The BBC will only be missed by those who knock it if/when it is gone!

What pees me off about the BBC is that they make their service freely available to all, then demand payment with menaces whether you want it or not.

When I last bought a TV, I was asked to provide my name and address.

Yet if I wanted that TV as a monitor for a PC and to watch DVDs and listen to the radio via the TV aerial (you don't need a licence for these), what then?

You're forgetting one major stumbling block. Brits will never stick together. They're great at fighting among themselves and can't wait to drop their neighbours in it with the authorities. But actually organising themselves and sticking it to their oppressors is completely beyond them.

True. There are more of "us" than there are of "them", but it means FA when most of "us" are sheeple.

Big Brother is everywhere as the great Transam has said.

"2FA" is the latest indignity. Two Factor Identification, if it spreads, will mean that you will not be able to go anywhere without your mobile phone.

The cheapest is Free.
No License required to listen to the radio.
Independant television source provide similar content. BBC run the same PR/newswire as Sky, ITV, you miss out on nothing.
IBM and Microsoft have brought out many innovations which I also don't have to pay for if I don't want to use.

BBC is a bloated state broadcaster that has failed to adapt and evolve. I believe the current licence model will be gone within 5 years.

The actual reason I decided to ditch them, was due to all the aggressive letters I received for being unlicensed. When I bought my current home I was renovating it for the first 6 months and was bombarded with aggressive letters. I made the mistake of telling them I didn't need a licence and the ramp up of harassment just got worse.

Not one letter telling me how great the content was that I was missing out on.

Do people still pay for Sky? Load of money for hundreds of channels of rubbish.

My brother still has the Sky box even though he stopped subscribing. The box seems to be doing things even when it's off. I hear it start up and whirring noises at regular intervals. Don't know why it does this when not in use.
Mine is in a cupboard in an unused room, I doubt it keeps springing into life since it aint plugged in - but have never checked. If it is I will adjust it with the sledge hammer.

As for adverts, we have one of those HDD video recorders, can easily skip through adverts on that. It is also good for watching football at double speed, can't watch a 'Live' match now - they just look like lazy bastards

clearly you are telling them incorrectly. On the present house I'm restoring I've not had a license or a reminder for three years. Explained what I was doing, how long I expected to be doing it and why my timing is as it is.

Ignore him. It's just bitter Tory boys bashing the Beeb as usual.
