Blanking plate

So what ever happened to:
Where the location of the accessory, point or switchgear can be determined from the reverse side, a zone formed on one side of a wall of 100 mm thickness or less or partition of 100 mm thickness or less extends to the reverse side...
with accessories in positions shown red would it be reasonable to expet a cable in the arrowed position

Yes, agreed, but you just contrived that picture to make a point, and it wasn't what your original description brought to mind. Also, strictly speaking, BS7671 would (rightly or wrongly) seem to allow even that, or at least be suggesting you shouldn't drill there, mostly because you would be drilling into a cable on the other side of the wall.

My apologies, I was initially trying to describe exactly that situation with
... except more than onece the chase runs along a wall with no accessories but ducks through to the next room...
but as they say a picture paints a thousand words. Whether it's 'in the spirit of' BS7671 I wouldn't wish to make a judgement on.

I think that illustrates that what many people (albeit not BS7671) call 'safe zones' are, in fact, probably better regarded as 'dangerous zones'.

I'm sure that I'm not alone in considering it very iffy to use an accessory 'on the other side' of a partition to create a 'permitted zone' for cable routing.

However, I also feel that the accessory 'on the other side' of the partition should be regarded as creating a 'dangerous zone' (i.e. a zone which could be dangerous to penetrate) on the size without an accessory.
