BMW Owners

The Audi driver I encountered this morning

No seat belt
Texting while driving
Jumped a red light
In fairness all of us could relate such incidences & the problem is only bad driving examples are noticed, rarely the good.

How about the driver of a bus loaded (peak travel period) with passengers I saw talking on his mobile whilst negotiating busy traffic o_O
Doesn't make me condemn all bus drivers.

nb: I had an incident recently caused by a driver (not BM or Audi) pulling out of a side turning so close in front of me that only a swerve onto the opposite pavement avoided a serious crash. When I attempted to report this to Essex police & download the dashcam evidence their site persisted in refusing to accept my submission. I called the non-emergency # & was advised to 'try using a different device' (which I don't posses) so another potentially dangerous driver escapes the justice he/she deserves.

I heard you had to take the front wing off some models to change a light bulb
Only if you follow the workshop manual.
There are ways around it which include making your own tool.
But I agree that VAG cars from the past were the easiest to maintain and the modern ones are unnecessarily more complicated, but surely a lot easier than merc and bmw.

The thing I see a lot about "prestige car" owners, is how often they are run on a shoestring.

Virtually running on fumes, tyres virtually bald is common place. More so than run of the mill cars.

But it's the image that matters to many of the owners .

"Fur coat and no knickers" mentality (y)

Cheap brand tyres - mismatched - is another giveaway of shoestring motoring.

We call them cheapskate wannabe millionaire...

Given the lack of use of indicators these days I don’t think this issue is confined to BMW drivers

Nope, I reckon my driving is impeccably always correct, all of the time, but last week, a bit preoccupied, I failed to give a signal until the last second....

The IAM's view, is that you always consider whether you need to signal at all, as that makes you think, look, and observe. My view is at odds with that, I always signal, it is almost an automated reaction, it leaves my higher mental functions, to concentrate on what's happening on the road. Automatically giving the signal, also cover you for the possibility that your observation may not have spotted another user, or another user suddenly appearing, when you lack a free hand to operate the signal.

There are a hell of a lot of shoite drivers out there nowadays.
Probably a mix of ineptitude and entitlement.

Everyone should be forgiven the occasional mistake (providing nothing bad comes of it), but the ones that really grate on me are the ones who just hurl abuse even though it is them who are in the wrong.
Drivers hurl abuse because they don't like being called out for doing something stupid.
They must know they have done something stupid, because most drivers don't just honk their horns or flash their lights for nothing.

What really makes me laugh is idiots that pull an "impatient" stunt like pulling out in front of you or overtaking you and cutting in, then, when they get a honk, they stop their car and get out to remonstrate with you.

This happened to me, causing a huge jam of traffic behind me and I just yelled "I thought you were in a hurry?" until they got back in and drove off.

Not only content with holding me up, but all the other buggers behind me.

Real idiot.

I saw a clip on YT where a similar thing happened and a driver in a car behind the bloke forced to stop by the idiot got out and started fighting the guy who jammed on.

You have to be careful picking fights like that, you never know who you will meet.

Happened to me when I was a passenger in my friend's car.
Bloke came out of the car to start a fight and my friend went out as well.
The idiot legged it at the sight of this monster 6'10" / 300 pound of muscles.
I couldn't stop laughing...

I believe that on my car the easiest way to change the NS headlight bulb is to jack up the car, remove the wheel, remove the shield from inside the arch, and have at it from behind.

Sounds like a vauxhall.

And it's not easy !

Having been a passenger in a BMW while the driver was smoking his e-cig in one hand, texting in the other while overtaking other cars at about 80mph I can attest to how bad they are - I swore never again to go in that car with the guy - Salesmen Pffft!

There are some self help videos on YT that can help them keep maintenance costs down.

I remember cars where you opened the bonnet and you could see the ground below the engine bay. There were about 2 or 3 wires running to the engine. Somewhere you could see and get to there was a small box with 4 fuses in it.

And service intervals were shorter, overall life was less, things were always going out of adjustment, fuel consumption was poor, emissions were bad, reliability was bad, crash safety was bad, ...
