Border on the Island of Ireland

That's an agreement not to go to war with each other and provide help in times of need. What's that got to do with free movement?
It allows the freedom of movement between the two countries and will continue even if brexit happens.

"The terms of the treaty included provisions for guaranteeing the mutual security of both nations and strengthening of commercial ties such as the right of both countries to trade on the terms enjoyed by the subjects of that country. There were even clauses encouraging freedom of movement and settlement between the two countries, as subjects of either country had the right to dwell in the domains of the other."

England and Portugal have never been to war and share the longest alliance in the world; 630 years.

How can you tell which person, coming from Ireland, is entitled to have freedom of movement?

If only there were some way for you to tell.

There should be a language test.
Every one should be asked on entry to the UK from Ireland to read a short sentence. " I don't believe in free movement"

On coming through the welcoming hall.

If he says when asked:
" I don't believe in tree movement"
He's allowed in as he's obviously Irish.

So we will still trade regardless of Brexit or not?

When the Irish govt have sorted out that kind of minutiae

It is not the job of the government of the Republic of Ireland.

The people who have to decide if they will allow free movement from the EU into the UK are the government of the UK.

They have not yet decided.

This is because they have capitulated to the Brexers, who also can't decide.

On the one hand, they want free movement from the EU into the UK, and on the other hand, they don't.

Since they are unable to agree even with themselves, they are also unable to agree with anyone else.

Brexers are not much good at agreeing to things.

Not even inside their own heads.

On the nonsense level, you've surpassed yourself John.
Don't try and re-write history, there is freedom of movement between Ireland and the UK, has been since 1921. This will continue after Brexit for Irish citizens, that's been agreed between Ireland, the UK and the EU.
How they enforce it is not my concern. The minutiae of the arrangement is not my concern, that's for the governments to sort out.
The facts remain.

Yeah, but they won though didn't they, life's too short to spend every night crying yourself to sleep John. Suck it up, accept it and move on.

I realise you don't want to talk in facts, only in vague platitudes.

The question (you have obviously forgptten) was "Who says there is going to be a border set up.?"

The answer is, if the UK government decides that it will allow free movement from the EU into the UK, then border checks on people entering the UK from the EU are not required.

However, if, as the Brexers say they want, UK will not allow free movement from the EU into the UK, then border checks on people entering the UK from the EU are required, so that people not entitled to cross can be prevented.

Brexers cannot answer this question, because it is too difficult.

The government doesn't want to answer the question, because the Brexers won't like the answer.
