I don't want freedom of movement of people from the EU, except for Irish citizens

Then you must have border controls to verify that would-be entrants are permitted to cross the border, and to keep out the ones you don't want

Who says there is going to be a border set up.?

Fillyboy does.

Answer my question about the bus.

Which ones will you let in?

The bus crosses into NI.

You have no border controls so you have let them all in.

That's what you want is it? It's not what you said earlier.

Would you let them in if they arrived on a ship at Dover? Or a plane at Heathrow? Or Aldergrove?

If the decision was up to me?

No I don't want freedom of movement of people from the EU, except for Irish citizens, a freedom they've enjoyed since the 20's, and will continue to enjoy in the future as agreed by the Irish Govt, the UK Govt and the EU, as confirmed by those parties just a few months ago.
You will have to include the similar agreement between England and Portugal as well. 'Enjoyed' since 1387.

When the Irish govt have sorted out that kind of minutiae, I'll let you know. I'm not arrogant enough to make that kind of decision on behalf of another country, your ilk obviously are and much entertainment it provides us so please carry on.
One thing I can tell you, it won't involve border controls, that my good chum, is written in stone.

I'm sure it will be possible to have freedom of movement between Ireland and the UK without going to war with Portugal, although I'm not quite sure what your point is.

My point was, as I said, England and Portugal have had a similar agreement since 1387.

That's an agreement not to go to war with each other and provide help in times of need. What's that got to do with free movement?

If we need our cucumbers picked the Portuguese will come and pull them for us.
Was the agreement

Why must you?
How can you tell which person, coming from Ireland, is entitled to have freedom of movement?

If only there were some way for you to tell.. perhaps a little bit of ID a person could carry that could be checked before gaining entry to the UK. Oh, wait.....
