the queen has no need to ride in a plane painted red, white and blue. Neither does the RAF need to have such planes.

The RAF probably does need an air to air refueller, which is what this plane is. Given its military use, it doesn't much matter what colour it is but if it can also be used for the Royal Family and for promoting the UK around the world why not give it a UK theme paint job?

But it's not a private jet Johnny. It's a military plane wearing a nice coat. And its cheaper and more secure to send senior Royal Family members and Govenement VIPs in it than on commercial flights. Win win.
