World leaders don't just pick up the phone on a whim.
The West is seen to be in a weakened position after the Afghan debacle, Brexit, European disunity and their refusal to meaningfully discuss Russian concerns over the expansion of NATO into Russian areas of influence.
Putin has had enough of American dissembling and wants to settle the matter now, not somewhere down the road where Boris keeps kicking his can.
Negotiation is the only way out of this, not telling him to 'go do one'.

The West cannot send troops to Ukraine as it is not a member of NATO.
Make an exception
No exceptions.
Sending troops would only broaden the conflict and drag European countries in to a war they can ill afford.

More yawn news. It's getting ridiculous.The latest is that Putin's master plan started when nord stream 2 route was planned as the Ukraine will loose $50m gas transfer fees - if that pipe is turned off. LOL I've no idea where the new pipe runs. I do know that some change in intentions cause a gas price increase of 17% almost mediately also that Trump wanted them to buy off the USA via ships. That would mean paying what we currently are at the moment. It seems some ships have rerouted here due to what we are paying for it. All great for the USA as they are increasing gas export facilities. NVG for europe and that suites them too. As Boris has said the need for gas for some time is part of going green. Give the greens a majority in parliament and they will find that things aren't as simple as they suggest. Maybe no more gas stoves for us who ever is in at some point,
More sensible news would what will happen will and in real terms no one really knows what that will be. So sides posture as usual.
