Well, the UK used to be in the EU, so there then might have been a requirement for them to be be compliant with all sorts of EU regulations as well as BS1363, mightn't there?I was trying to work out why they should have a CE mark.
I've just looked at a random selection and done of mine are CE marked but the bit of card on 2 new plugs are.Well, the UK used to be in the EU, so there then might have been a requirement for them to be be compliant with all sorts of EU regulations as well as BS1363, mightn't there?
Goodness knows what the situation is now
Having said all that, I'm by no means sure that they do have CE mark, do they?
Kind Regards, John
I have to say that it's not something I've ever thought about but, having just looked at a few, I see no CE marks. Wallwarts do, of course, have them.I've just looked at a random selection and done of mine are CE marked but the bit of card on 2 new plugs are.
... not to mention, of course, that UK wiring practices are such that plugs/sockets which suited the UK system would not be appropriate elsewhere in the EU, or vice versa.A long time ago, one of my colleagues in the Electricity industry was in an EU working party looking at a standard plug and socket system. ... One of the requirements given was that it should not be any of the plugs currently used (because it would give an advantage to the country/ies using it and annoy all the others).

Nothing has changed yet and won’t till the end of the year at least.
It would obviously 'be OK' (for loads ≤13A) but I doubt that they would consider it 'appropriate' to have a plug with a (at most) 13A fuse in it on a circuit protected by a 16A OPD.Why do you think that a UK 13a plug/socket that is perfectly appropriate on 16 or 20a radial in the UK would not be appropriate on such a radial (which is the norm) in Europe?
This damage is not untypical of most brands of BS1363 plugs when run at or near 13A for long periods of time.
I was in the EU three times today. It's a wonder I didn't get CE marked.Well, the UK used to be in the EU, so there then might have been a requirement for them to be be compliant with all sorts of EU regulations as well as BS1363, mightn't there?
