I was using an extension plugged into a plug in meter (from Maplins, model 2000MU, max current 15A). I was running a heater, some lights, and a drill. As you can see the Neutral pin of the extension's plug has stuck in the meter and the meter shows a burn mark and warping of the plastic due to heat.

Is it the plug or the meter that was likely to be the cause of the fault, or something else?

Best guess is as above.

Obviously hard to say if the bad connection was in or due to the socket, or the plug, or the two not being firmly plugged together.

How much power were you putting through it?

1kw heater, 3 60W bulbs, drill intermittently (not sure of its power). What would it look like if I did 'overload' the plug / meter?
