I think you should be ok there, if the drive links are exactly the same.....so long as the bar will allow it.
To tell you the truth I always go for the designed number of links.

I was thinking like this.
If the pitch is the same then that means the gear cog in housing will be fine & also the wheel in the end of the bar will be fine.
If the gauge is the same then the chain will sit down in the bar groove.
So only thing left is length hence 53 drive links to 52 drive links.
Does this mean 1 drive link on its own or 1 drive link but also 1 or 2 of its connecting links ? its this bit im not sure about.
With the chain slack i can move the bar back / forth with ease
I think an extra drive link would require a set of joining links on one side only - thinking from memory!
All other parts of the chain should be fine.
Why not get the specified chain?

The bar sliding back and forth with the original chain mounted is not the same as getting a new shorter chain into the guide rails and over the sprocket .
