Look what they did to the docks ?. No wonder the shipping lines pulled out of that dark corner of the UK. They brought that on theirselves .
The Port of Liverpool is the largest of the Peel ports, handling over 33 million tonnes of cargo – more than 50% of the Group's annual trade. The Manchester Ship Canal handles another 8 million tonnes of cargo annually along its 36 mile length from the River Mersey to the heart of Greater Manchester. Together they represent a dynamic port complex offering more than 100 berths to the most diverse range of international trade.

Liverpool is ranked among Britain's major deep sea container ports, is the country's major gateway for trade with the United States and Canada and serves more than 100 global destinations. The Seaforth Container Terminal handles nearly 700,000 teus (20ft Equivalent Units) a year. A second container terminal is planned for development on the River Mersey, adding another 600,000 teus of capacity to the port's existing container terminal operations and enabling it to accommodate the new generation of post-Panamax size container ships. The development forms part of the Mersey Ports Master Plan, a 20-year strategy for growth for the Port of Liverpool and The Manchester Ship Canal.

Liverpool, Britain's most diverse port in the range of cargoes it handles, imports more grain and animal feed than any other UK port, exports more scrap metal for recycling and includes among the traffic crossing its quays – timber and forest products, steel, metals, coal, cocoa, crude oil, edible oils, liquid chemicals and much more. Liverpool is the major British port for trade with Ireland, handling more than 40% of all unitised freight crossing the Irish Sea, plus nearly three quarters of a million passengers. It is also a growing port for cruise ship calls with more anticipated with the development of a new £15 million extension to the Liverpool Landing Stage at Pier Head. The Port of Liverpool has more than 1,200 acres of waterside land accommodating over 4 million sq ft of modern logistics facilities and bespoke commercial sites.

Got any more insights?

You lot ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
This started out as a serious thread about the deaths of 96 innocent football fans and as per usual it turns into a personal slanging match.

You make me sick!
Agreed Joe. Its time this was locked and the mods get their act together and start moderating.

The only thing I'd say to you though conny is that joe90 has been one of the main reasons why this thread has run so long. His usual refusal to listen to reason, and tactics of argueing on generalisations when all of his points have been answered shouldn't go unnoticed.

Actually conny I've thought about it a bit more now and you are wrong, I'll tell you why.
Though Hillsborough was a personal tragedy for the families, it was also a black day for Liverpool because of the terrible lies of the orchestrated smear campaign.
God knows this city already suffered a bad enough reputation, but that was made dramatically worse.
Was it Margaret Aspinall who stood on the steps of St Georges Hall last week and told the Liverpool fans to be proud because now everyone knows what she and the families had always known, that they were innocent of blame.
Yet still there are many idiots who will never change their minds no matter what. If they spout their bile we should have the right to answer them.

Aye. Sometimes though, it is wiser not to respond at all and let contemptible views be seen for what they are. You then maintain a silent dignity.

It's been a slanging match right from the beginning. Even when respected posters voiced their opinions their branded t*****s, p****s etc.
I've just read the report and nothing in it proves that a bunch of animals were not out of control on that fateful day.
It's conveniant to blame the police.

Snico claims no one pushed yet he writes this.....
YES I WOULD HAVE PUSHED FORWARD, AS I WOULD HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO GO, AND I WAS UNDER INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE POLICE TO MOVE FORWARD.

That from an ex copper. Does make you wonder what part of their anatomy houses their brain sometimes though.
Awaits more insults.

You aren't a respected poster norcon.

I've just read the report and nothing in it proves that a bunch of animals were not out of control on that fateful day.

Nonsense like that is the reason why.

I don't expect respect on here. Respect has to be earned.
Others have earned it and yet their abused for nothing more than voicing their opinion. Right from the beginning.
No real surprise though.

Sooey, I agree with what you are saying mate. What I am objecting to is the 'personal' insults being traded between individuals on here with no connection to the tragedy. By all means each defend their view but do it like grown-ups and not kids in a school yard calling each other names . Whats coming next? "My dads bigger than your dad?" FFS!
Just keep it on topic without the personal attacks. OK so some people don't like scousers. Thats their prerogative, I couldn't care but when it comes to going off topic by insulting single persons then it demeans the whole site to let it continue. In the past there have been good posters banned for lesser contributions. Maybe they should all be given a pardon and allowed back.

Who did you have in mind? aronsearle perhaps?

This was his first post

Loutish football fans crush each other against railings like untamed animals.

=everybody else's fault.
