The armed forces have the lowest number of people for possibly hundreds of years. And being cut back further.

The morale is low, but the people are good. Tough standards to get in, which means only the best are serving.

You want to lower the morale further and force people to join who won't meet the entry standards and have no interest in trying. ( yes. Some will). How do you think current staff will react?

Don't forget this Government is the 1 responsible for depleting our forces too.

There is an argument for basic service, but it is to increase the potential numbers of troops quickly. Nothing else !

So yes. It's a con. But who supports it?

Young Muslim youth who have no affiliation or loyalty to the flag or country.

Young Palestinian supporters would be at cross purposes as in any event of war, we would be on the side of Israel.

Eastern European parents would up sticks and go home. Rather than have their children join up.


Young British kids would think **** that I'm not defending this country to protect the lot that won't serve.

The battle for number 10 should be the government who will deal with law and order, respect for others and generaly uniting the nation. And living standards.

I'd be all for national service if I thought it would work like it did in the 40's and 50's.

But it won't. Our country is too fractured, there's too much devide.

If you want an effective reserve army, yoh should 1st choose those that want to be in it and will reach high standards.
