If I thought it wasn't an empty promise.
And that it would work for the army (it wont) and the country.

I think far better encouraging with incentives.

But if it was enforced be because of the threat from the east then I'll be behind it.

For now we need to build a positive not a negative army.

So we need people that want to be there 1st but who can't get in because of the cutbacks.

Sort it out properly by all means.

It simply would not work. Our youth today simply won't have it
Then how do you police it?

Young Muslim youth who have no affiliation or loyalty to the flag or country.

Young Palestinian supporters would be at cross purposes as in any event of war, we would be on the side of Israel.

Eastern European parents would up sticks and go home. Rather than have their children join up.

None of the forces want conscription, they don't want to be PE teachers and jailors for thousands of young adults who don't want to be there. It would give us a small edge when North Korea invade as everyone would have basic firearms training, but that's about it.

You'd also have the usual cultural effects of conscription in practice. The children of the well off will be able to buy their way out of it.
